PAGE FOUR IEEN THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1928 GHILD KILLS HER INFANT BROTHER WITH POP BOTTLE York Township Mother Re- turing from Store Finds Baby Dead Toronto, Oct. 11. -- When her five-months-old brother, Dominie, woke up from a nap yesterday af- ternoon and began crying, Gloria Cinicola, 2 1-2 year uid daughter of Frank Cinicola, Italian laborer, 57 Rogers Road, struck him om the head and killed him. Such was the story that Mrs. Qinicola, hysterical with grief, heard from the lips of her eldest ¢hild, Camelia, aged four, when returning home after an hour's absence at a nearby store she found her youngest child, and only son, Dominic, dead in the bed where she had left him peacefully sleeping. Camelia said tnat Gloria had struck the little one with a stick, Mrs. Cinicola afterwards told York township police. But a search of the kitchen where the children were left failed to reveal any stick. Police reluctantly came to the conclusion that little Dominic had been killed by the old pop bottle from which he had been sucking his warmed milk when he went to sleep. A small bump over the tot's right eye was the only mark his body bore. It was the imprint, however, of a blow of sufficient force to cause almost instant death fn a child of such tender age, the authorities said. FARM HAND FREED St. Catharines, Oct. 11.--Stephen Bygrave, 22, who admitted shooting Cecile Silverthorn while standing guard in hi March, was this afternoon found not guilty of manslaughter. He caught Silverthorn carrying away a bag of grain and intended to fire over his head, he said. NEW YORK EXPRESS CLERKS ON STRIKE President of Union and Spe- cial Mediator Are Expected Today New York, Oct. 11.--George M. Harrison, grand president of the International Brotherhood of Rail- way and Steamship Clerks, and a special mediator of the Board of Mediation at Washington, are ex- pected here today to try to settle the strike of American Railway employes which tied up express traf- fic in New York. For a few hours Wednesday af- ternoon it looked as though the strike, which began late Tuesday, might be short-lived, for L. R. Gwyn, vice president of the com- pany, announced the receipt of a telegram from Harrison declaring the men's action to be unauthoriz- ed and that the president had is- sued instructions for them to re- turn to work immediately pending adjustment of any differences with the company. Officials of the local union of the brotherhood, however, said the employes had declined to obey the president's instructions and that they would remain on strike. The company estimated that 9,000 men had left their jobs, They included clerks, drivers and loaders, and the tie-up of express traffic led the company to declare an embargo on all merchandise it handled in this city, estimated to total 700 carloads a day.
