I [by Mr. ] of Terrors"--quite A Jack-O'-Lantern Party | This is going to be o party given Jack-o-Lantern himself, When you arrive at his house he greets you at the door. Really, he is quite a life-sized host -- made [from cardboard with crepe paper moss pasted all over him. You en- ter, leave your wraps at the door, and start om your journey to his entertainment hall. Tunnel 1 of Terrors The way is threngh the "Tunnel dark except when illuminated by ome of Jack's family. And's it's quite exciting! In a dark corner the family ghost will probably want a word with you--to give you a souven'r -- a skinned grape a plece of cold boiled mal aroni, some wet cotton, explaining® that it's harmless--merely the cat's eye, an angle worm, or a dead mouse! The last and darkest stretch 1s almost without light and is filled with all manner of weird sounds and sights, An electric fan hidden behind a paper skeleton makes it move in a very spooky manner, A voice seemingly out of the air, but in reality directed through a bath hose hidden in the darkness, warns you not to step on the al- ligator eggs that strew the path or papa alligator will get you. Crackers under the carpet fill for 25 minutes longer. This breakfast popover can be served' as a luncheon dessert by opening it and adding one or more tea- spoons crushed pineapples, These will Serve six. LJ the role of the eggs quite effec tively and the honking from a hidden auto horn might be papa alligator looking for vemgeanmece. Finally you arrive at the bam- quet hall, and here is Jack again to greet you. This time his head is stuck through a pair of dark cur- tains in a doorway -- a pumpkin through the back of which is thrust an iron pipe. He nods gaily on this long neck, at each guest, and someone behind the curtains at the other end of the pipe, calls a heavy greeting as each friend approaches. The next stunt is fortune telling. An open fireplace 1s needed for this or a large witch's caldron with a fire in it. Beside this sits the witch herself. Other games you play are pin. ning the tail on the Hallowe'en cat, blowing out a lighted candle through a funnel (it's quite diffi- cult and three tries are enough). Then folows the feast. There's a jolly salad -- a hol- lowed out orange with the top eut off and eyes and mouth cut out. It's filled with chicken or fruit salad. Then Jack's own pumpkin ple, and of course, cider. The favors are small pumpkins of composition filled with candies and nuts, And the centreplece is a large pump- kin filled with carnival caps and other treasures which are drawn from their hiding place by means of ribbons attached to the place cards. And now home and to bed. Was- n't it fun? We'll come again next year. MRS.
