Gleason is Durant's Canadian Sales Manager A former Oshawa man, G, D, Glea- n, has been appointed Canadian es manager of the Durant Motor Company, with headquarters at To- ronto, Despatches from New York on Wednesday announced the ap- pointment, Mr. Gleason has heen a promi- nent figure In the motor industry for @ number of years. He is a Canadian citizen, although much of his business life, and more particu- larly his connection with the auto- mobile world, has kept him in the United States, For a number of years he was connected with the Chevrolet Motor Company of Can- ada at Oshawa. Subsequently he went to Detroit and represented the Chevrolet division of General Motors in that city. He is severing a lengthy connec- tion with the General Motors organ- ization to accept the position of general sales manager with the Can- adlan Durant Company. It is ex- pected that he will arrive in the city! shortly to take up his new duties. Ants and Grasshoppers Fablegram: It is said that insect ants and men "uncles" are the only things that fight by means of armies. Well, you can excuse the ants they another. Moral: COMETS PLENTIFUL SAYS SCIENTISTS Seven comets which have been seen on, previous occasions are ex- pected to return to the vicinity of earth this year, If they all keep their appointments, and the average number of new comets turn up, os- tronomers will have at least a full dozen under observation between now. and December 31. But there is reason to fear that some of the seven old comets have met with mis- haps while howling along through space, and that they have either been shattered into unrecognizable debris, or diverted into quite different orbits, There is, however, little romance now in comet finding. as was the case when heroic comet-hunters swept the skies all night in hope of dropping on one, Now they set traps for them--combination of telescopes and cameras turning in unison with the rotation ot the earth on its axis ---and go to bed until morning, when they develop the plates and examine them for the tell-tale marks which betray any comets that may have en. tered the region of the sky thus photographed.
