Errors in Third Patton blanked the visitors for the first two frames but when his team- mates showed signs of an ascension, "Pat" hecame less effective. Lea- side registered three times in the thirfi innings when they should not have crossed the plate at all. Two errors and two singles did the trick. The Peacocks couldn't seem to un- derstand that they had scored enough runs to win the game right then, but proceeded to hammer the hall Afier the third it was not altogether loose fielding that made the score mount; heavy stickwork was responsible, Oshawa's lone run dev=2loped right in the first stanza on three clean hits, Fair rapping cut a two bagger and Evans and Rowden following with solos. From then to the end of the game "Lefty" McGuire held the lo- cals to twe hits, Saunders getting one in the fourth and Patton coming tnrough with a single in the seventh. 8 Looks Like Belleville Leaside did not leave the impres- sion of Beinn a wonderful hall team athough they recontiy defeated the Cobourg aggregation but they were playing their best and their three errors did not affect the result of the game. Oshawa's chance? for win- ning the second half was only small before going down to defeat Satur- day but even had they won it would have made very little difference as Belleville trimmed Cobourg right in the Lakeshore town 7 to 4. The Rail- roaders have practically all their hard games completed and only su- perb work on the part of Leaside, Bowmanville and Port Hope will pre- vent them from entering the play- off series with Peterboro. Jones Hits Homer Only a fair Saturday afternoon crowd witnessed the game, the threatening weather keeping many fans away. Leaside failed to score until the third and then it all hap- pened after two men were out. Cul- liton, first man up, popped to Saun- ders. Shaw got a life on Rowden's error but he was nipped at second by Evans who made a perfect peg, after fielding McGuire's bunt in front of the plate. Last Satur- day's game with Cobourg was hard fought throughout, and Peterhoro won 3 te 0. ' Port Hope Guide.--Cobourg is talking protest again, amd the Lea- side-Cobhourg fixture is lkely to come hefore the sub-committee. Tyson, the Cohourg catcher, raised such a row over a decision by Ump- ire Rosevear, at the plate, that he was chased to the bench in the third innings. After being ordered from the game, Tyson threw his glove at the umpire. Cobourg claims that while their other catcher was pre- paring to replace Tyson, Leaside scored and according to the rules time should have heen called. But what defence will the Cobourg Ciub offer for Tyson's conduct towards the umpire? It.was only last year that a Port Hope player was suspended for the balance of the year for as- saulting the umpire and if our memory serves us correctly it was President Kimmell of Cobourg, who ordered the sugpension. He was not infallable, none of us are, that, but you could rest assured that Jack would call them as hé saw them and no team would ever be deliberately cheated by his decisions. But after a quarter of a century of clear smooth sailing Jack has struck a storm and he has put up with more abuse this year than in all the other years combined. The climax was reached on Wednesday, when Tyson, the Cobourg catcher carried on a tirade against Mr. Rose- vear, adding insult to injury by throwing the decker at him.
