) ermedia THE ONTARIO REFORMER, SATURDAY, DEC. 30, 1922 With One-sided | Defeat Bowmanville 8-1 in Up to Mid-Season First Ga Form But T to Have the Goods -- The O.H.A, season was ushered In last night, when Bowmanville in- terimediates were easily defeated by Ed Donald's clan 8 to 1 at Bradley's rink before a crowd of more than 1,600 fans, While the brand of hockey displayed was not of the ex- | citing variety, the spectators saw their favorites take the ning game and are satisfled some fast hockey is in store for them before the season hag far advanced. Neith- er team was in condition and con- sequently the pace was not as fast as some of the railbirds expected, but with a few more stiff practices end another game or two under their belts the Green and White should make all teams in the group take notice, With one or two exceptions the Hosiery Town sent up practically the game aggregation that competed in the O.H.A. a year ago, hut on the whole they look to be a much weak- er combination. Manager Ed Donald following last night's contest stated that he was well satisfied, but be- Heves that his boys will improve fifty per cent during the next two oals, Moyse and A, the best of the Mills and Chambers that they had any- home about and the will have to hustle ot be able to hold the team. Best In Llosing Stages * The Oshawa forwards contributed their best worin the last few min- utes when thef tallied twice in the space of a fi seconds, Sammy weeks. "Kip" Rowden who has been tatives for several seasons did not exert" himself until the closing stages when he cut loose with some of his old time end to end dashes, Many Substitutes Substitutes were used continually showing that the players had not struck their stride. The visitors were constantly changing their men which somewhat marred the game, there being many delays. The Bow- manville players showed nothing in the way of combined efforts while the local forwards secured the ma- jority of their goals through two and three man attacks. Numerous pass- es were missed owing to players not being in the right spot at the right time, but practice will develop the teamplay, and Manager Donald has ordered the players out at the rink every night next week in preparation for the Cobourg huskies next Friday night in Cobourg. Gaulin Showed Speed Possibly the surprise of the éve- ning was the work of Gualin, who e his first appearance with the Gréen and White. - He had probably more speed than any other man on the ice and his stickwork was good. He was used as a substitute but he had not been on the ice two minutes in the first period before he skated down the side and around the de- fence to find the nets for Oshawa's third counter. He repeated again in the third session. MY PLATFORM 1 2m in favour of the Dominion Government co-ordinating the Railroads be tween Toronto and Cobourg, and electrifying portions of the C. N. R. and Toroate Eastern. This will not only provide an vleetric road to Teronito, but "will. bing the Chippewa power to Oshawa, and we will not have to guarantee any bonds to the tune of $770,000.00. : We should have a new building by-law. The by-law we have now is suitsble making certain streots resideptiad only for a village like Columbus. We should also bave a residential by-law, to any group or clique, as I ¥THim that this a detriment to and business districts. - I will not be a party any Government. I am in favour of the extension and completion of Mechanic Street, 1 am supporting the by-law for the completion of the $20,000 Westmount sewer. We should keep after the Domigion Government until they give us a harbour at the Lake. We are entitled to it. ; Our efforts should be continued to procure a subway at the Grand Trunk Crossing. This is essential to ceunect Cedar Dale to Oshawa. We have taken in Cedar Dale wh makes 2n extra ward, and which should receive just the same attention as any ot ward. We are morally bound to give Cedar Dale a square Deal. . . WILL GUARD TOWN TREASURY I am opposed to raising the assessment of the Town, as the ratepayers ave staggering now under the burden of Taxation. How can you hope to keep the taxes down, when the Town's money is being wasted. I will guard. the Towa Treasury, and will give you one hundred cents value for every Dollar Spent. i bonestly feel that I can be of service to the Town. I have no selfish interest to serve, and I honestly feel that I can be of serwice to the Town. : : SURELY IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE. I nave had twenty years business experience in the Town of Oshawa. The ad- ministration of Town affairs is purely a business proposition. My record is before you, and I will respectfully ask for your support to elect me as Mayor or Jan. lst. . Wishing you one and all 2 Happy and Prosperous New Year. ©" Faithfully yours, z \ W. J. TRICK. oe
