S. Mason, Beech Ave, was united: in holy bands of matrimony to Mr, Philip Nind, of Thorold, son of Rey. T. A. and Mrs, Nind, of Port Perry, The ceremony was" performed-by the father of the groom, a former rector of St. John's church, who was assisted by Rev. C. R. Spencer, present rector of the church, there being about two hundred and invited guests present. Thé church was beautifully decorated with white hydrangea, delphiniums and hollyhocks. To the strains of the wedding march, played by Mr, John Kent, the bride entered thé church on the arm of her father, gowned in ivory satin with bridal veil of rose point lace and 'tulle, held in place with a bandeau of pearls and camellias, She carried a shower bouquet of ivory and sweet- heart roses with streamers of lily of the valley and maiden hair fern, The matron of honour, was Mrs. E. A, Mill- sap, of St. Hilda's College, London, wearing a peach frock of point d'esprit and pale green organdie hat and shoes, with green lace mittens. The. five bridesmaids, Misses Joyce Muirhead, Ruth Gardner, Pegi Hughes, Lucy McMurtry and Edith Bell," were all ty Hi IN Ets bt an 1 a AER Carel Pe 3 Girls' Softball Well even though its not altogether to our credit we've had a little varia- tion in our Softball 'program this week, Last Friday afternoon we en- tered a tournament in Blackstock. The weather looked pretty doubtful, but we set out gaily, minus our Tegu- lar catcher, Jean Harrison, and our second baseman, 'Elma Reesor. On' arriving there, we found that three 'other teams besides ourselves had en- tered; namely, Blackstock, Scugog and Brooklin, Although Brooklin had not yet arrived, the draw was made' which put Scugog against' Blackstock, and Port Perry against 'Brooklin, Scugog and Blackstock played. first, Black- stock being successful, The next game was between Port +Perry boys and Janetville, The Port Perry team won; at least they called it a Port Perry team but it 10oked to us like an all- star team from Ontario County. Still the Brooklin team had not arrived and it looked as if Port Perry would have the bye, The next game played was between 'Blackstock boys and Caes- area. In this game, Caesarea came out on top. In the meantime a girls' team from Bethany which was unex- gowned in frocks of pastel shades of silk net, made sunkar, buc ot dierent' 'colours; and wore flowered hats 'and crepe shoes to match, carrying old fashioned nosegays. The little flower girl, Miss Catherine Spencer, wore a dainty coloured frock of point d'esprit. ; The groom was "suppor ted by Dr. Wal- lace Graham, of Toronto, and the, ushers were Messrs, Wallace: Arm-| strong, - Ralph Yates, Wiley Edgar, | Tony Archer and Walden Musson, -{ During" the signing of the register Miss Jean Ramsay, sang "0 Promise Me," 'accompanied hy Mr. John Kent! at the organ. ~~ Following the ceremony a recep- tion was held at the home of the bride's parents, Beech Avenue, the | parents of the contracting parties re- ceiving with the newly wedded couple, Mrs. Mason, mother of the bride, wore a gown of coral chiffon with matching hat and shoes and carrying talisman roses. Mrs, Nind, mother of the groom, wore blue chiffon. The house was beautifully decorated with sum-' mer flowers and the bride's table car- ried a colour scheme of pink and white with flowers of lily of the valley, lark- spur, bachelor buttons and the usual trimmings. The wedding cake, a beautiful 'example of the culinary art, was made exclusively by the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Samuel Mason. ! Besides the local guests, there were friends and relatives of both contract- ing parties from Buffalo, Cobourg, Oshawa, Toronto, London,- Preston, Ottawa, Kingston, Montreal, St. Cath-' arines and Thorold, After the re- ception, the happy couple left by motor for Brittania, Muskoka District, where they will spend their honey- moon and will return next month be- fore going to Thorold, where they will | reside. At the beginning of the 4th inning it was coming down pretty steadily, and when the game was call- ed, everyone made a-mad dash for the Grand Stand. After several minutes, the sun came 1 out, and everything looked rosy, so we resumed our game. It wasn't so resy, though, as we soon found out, playing on the wet grass; in fact the way we a "Bush League" hockey match more than a girls' softball game. Bethany was up against the same "fair 'n square", with a score of 10- 12, a Then Port Perry boys played Caes- area and "Oh what a fall was theirs, my. Countrymenl!" It was our turn ] all over the field. Caesarea was vic- torious, but "Port" came in second, and each player returned home, joy in his heart, and richer by 4bc. Then Blackstock arid Bethany girls played off, but the game-was called on ac- count of darkness, Blackstock leading. The money was divided between the teams, and thus ended Blackstock's Big Field Day. . On Saturday night, July 22nd, Brooklin defeated Blackstock at Black- stock, and on Monday, Port Perry "Young Hopefuls" met with defeat at Scugog to the tune of '13-12, One can always count on an en- thusiastic crowd at Scugog; tngndly or otherwise. Well, that leaves only three games to be played at "Port". ~ We are still one game ahead, 'but we need your support to help us stay there. We'll éxpect' to see everyone from Port Perry at our next' "game which is tol. night, The game "when Brooklin was. to come up here has been changed from Wednesday, July 26th, to Thursday, July 27th, and that's TO-NIGHT. If Brooklin wins to-night,- Port Perry and Brooklin will be tied for first place instead of Port Perry being A as they are at present. So you see how necessary it -is that we: have" youf support. On July 31, Port Perry will visit Blackstock, and on August 2nd, Scugog visits "Good Old Port." That finishes the schedule, and then for the finals!
