This may be inter- esting to some of the older residents as Mrs. Wickens was a sister of the Late J. W. Meharry who was once prominent in Port Perry business cir- cles in partnership with the Late J. B. Laing. In the 80's and early 90's the firm of Laing and Meharry did a large hardware and tinware business where the Purdy block now stands. The obituary notice mentioned a brother Edward, now living in Winni- peg. Many of the customers of the old firm will recall the genial Trish "humor of Ed.
