Rain Dampens the Attendance at the Fair While the morning was dull and showery on Wednesday for the Port Perry Fair, it cleared up in the after- noon long enough for quite a large number to attend. The attendance was only about half the usual number. The exhibits were fair in most classes and of good quality. Horse and cattle entries were down, but some very fine animals were on exhibition. The, Junior Farmers' Swine Club brought up the showing of hogs. Some fine bacon hogs were shown by the juniors. The poultry classes were poorly filled and the quality not too good. The ladies kept up their end of the ex- hibits in the fancy work and house- hold science. These exhibits always attract much attention. Some fine specimens of vegetables were shown and the classes were well filled. As one would expect, owing to the poor crop of apples, this class was far be- low normal. Flower lovers were able to attract much attention with their beautiful array of colours. Hon. Duncan Marshall, Minister ot Agriculture, who was to have opened the Fair was unable to perform that duty, but did address two gatherings, one in the main building and one at the grand stand where the people were seeking shelter from the rain. The sports end of the program was also upset as were the horse races. The track was heavy and muddy. You should have seen the drivers-- well, they didn't look natural as they drove down the home-stretch. Next week we will publish a list of the prize winners, and the decisions of the directors in' regard to the spor ting events. The street dance was called off, but the Port Perry Band were able to give a concert at the band stand. CLERK'S NOTICE OF FIRST POST- ING OF VOTERS' LIST. Randle, Room b, Greene Bldg, Peterboro, SHOW PICTURES HERE OF THE HOLY LAND Native Galilean and wife come un. der auspices --of - Port Perry United Church on Monday night, September ' 24th, at 8 p.m. to present the Musical Travelogue programme, Palestine has changed very little in the past 20 centuries. It is the same now as it was then--when the Master lived and walked among men. The pastgral life of the people is the same, their customs are the same, and they are the same, asserted Stephen A. Haboush, born in Galilee, where he tended herds of sheep among the hills of Galilee, the same hills that were hallowed by the Master. This Native Galilean comes to Port Perry under the auspices of The United Church for one appearance during which he will bring inspiring messages from the Holy Lands with exclusive motion pictures: of the land of Immortals who lived and worked with the Master. Mr. Habouch is a Galilean by birth. He has looked upon the bright skies, the green hills, the olive groves, as they were two thousand years ago when the tremendous story of the four Gospels was happening. He was born to the mysticism and wonder of the East. It is his heritage. He grew up in the eternal hills redolent of the mighty events that happened there. He came to North America and was educated in North American Uni- versities. Later he returned to Pales- tine to the scenes of his youth. And he brought back to the new world a message, a story every North Ameri- can and every Christian is inspired with. His is the message of faith--the ola faith of the fathers. To a modern and materialistic world, he brings the beauty and marvellous imagery of the world that was, the Holy Land of antiquity, and also the lives and char- acters of the Immortals. h He adds to his message an unusual charm by the use of special motion pictures, enhanced by beautiful scenes in natural. colour - which appeared in | The National Geographic Magazine, Mr. Hoboush is the author of "My Shepherd Life in Galilee." Wherever Mr, Haboush has appear- ed, whether it is before great North American Churches, Conferences, As- semblies, Schools and Colleges, before London audiences, or on the platform in the ancient city of Damascus, he has interpreted the Scriptures in the light of places and people. He brings to you the very breath of Scriptural times and places and people. Madam Haboush will assist in costumes and Oriental music. ~to>-r-- vd - Port Perry Dominion Store MONEY RAISING SALE with the Greatest Sensational Ling at the home of Wm, Boe, of sympathy and acts of kindness at] ! On behalf of our Baseball Club and sport fans of our community, I would like to express our indigation at the attitude of the Port Perry Ball Club in failing to put in their appear- ance - at our Ball Tournament on Wednesday afternoon last. Disap- pointed fans from many outlying points came to ask "What is the mat- ter with Port Perry team" a question that could not be answered, as they even did not let us know they would not be- here, until one hour before playing time. The attendance of fans from the farming communities at any' sporting event held in Port Perry had made 'the difference between success and failure. You came after Seagrave to fill the breach as late as Civic Holi- day and we did not fail you, We hate to hark back to hockey days but let me remind you that as high as 86 fans had boarded a special train at Sea- grave station as supporters of your hockey team, dnd hasn't the Bush League been a big factor in pulling the rink out of the red. Didn't you come and take one of our best ball players quite recently to bolster your team knowing that his absence from our team weakened it in our bid for the cup. ¥ But why rave on, our day is gone and we got by without you. When you start again next season go out among the tall timbers and garner in a few more good ball players and also a few good sports, Roy Scott, President of Seagrave Ball Club.
