M. S. BANQUET A very successful W. M. S. banquet was held in the United Church S. S. rooms last Wednesday evening, Nov. 14th. The ladies of the United Church came in large numbers and enjoyed the simple but delightful supper prepared for them by the various groups of the W. M. S. and of the evening Auxiliary. The needs of the mind and spirit were then provided for by the pro- gram which followed. A hymn was sung, and brief ad- dresses were given by Mrs, Farmer, President of the W.M.S. and by Miss G. Stovin, President of the Evening Auxiliary. This group of young women are enthusiastic workers and their numbers are being steadily in- creased, ~ Mrs. D. Carnegie and Mrs. H. W. Emmerson then rendered a pleasing duet, accompanied by Mrs. Ted Jack- son. ~The guest speaker of the even- ing, Miss Mitchell, was then intro- duced. Miss Mitchell has spent the last thirty years travelling all over Canada visiting and encouraging Home Mis- sion stations. From the stories of ex- perience thus acquired and aided by a wonderful' memory, she gave vivid word pictures of conditions as 'she found them; from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia 'to British: Columbia and the Peace River. All listened with rapt attention and felt that W.M.S. work was indeed worth while. A vote of thanks was tendered Miss Mitchell for her very interesting address. Mrs, Ted Jack- son then gave a piano selection and the meeting was brought to a close. rs -- PEP -------- YOUNG PEOPLE MEET DR. THORNTON A large audience attended the ser- vice in the United Church on Sunday evening when Rev. Dr. Thornton spoke. His sermon gave a clear idea of the types of "religion" that become the motive power in the lives of men. L. McDermott, Furniture Dealer & Funeral Director, in Port Perry. The result of 'their work is most pleasing. = The 'store premises have been changed so that the furniture and undertaking depart- ments are completely separated. Par- ticular attention has been given to arrangements for funeral service. A neat showroom can be transformed into a chapel in a few minutes, and > .| this room is at the disposal of any who may find the house service incon- venient or unsuitable. In the em- balming room complete and sanitary equipment has been installed, the cleanliness and neatness of the sur- roundings being most noticeable.
