The Bluebird Club held a special meeting on Monday evening, December 3rd, to settle the business in regard to the play and dance on November 30th. They also appointed a committee of four to meet the Hall board, as the members decided to use their funds on hand, toward improvements on the Hall, if satisfactory to all concerned. Avery, Although the night was cold about a hundred friends and neigh- bours gathered and enjoyed the even- ing's . amusements, The bride and groom received a varied assortment of pretty and useful gifts. The bride and groom making suitable replies acknowledging the gifts and saying 'they did not know until now that they had so many warm friends. "For they are jolly good fellows" was sung as the response was made. Miss Olive Thompson read the address. A very dainty lunch was served at midnight, thus bringing to a close a very happy event. PRINCE ALBERT Quite a number from here attended the High School concert at Port Perry. - Mr. and Mrs. Worden Sonley and family of Toronto Spesit Sunday with 26th wedding anni-| Mrs. Worden, Mrs. R. Bond has returned home | after spending some time in Toronto. Burial took place in Pine Grove Cemetery on Saturday of the late Rev. Robert Thornton Madden, of To- ronto, son of the late Rev. D, Madden, a former resident of this village. The Misses Sara and May Madden are sisters of deceased. After a lingering illness, Mrs. Robt. Balfour passed away on Saturday morning. Her funeral was held on Monday afternoon and remains laid to rest in Pine Grove Cemetery. 3 Elsewhere in this issue is an account of the unfortunate accident which caused the instant death of Ceeil Jeffrey, son of Mr. John Jeffrey and the late Mrs. Jeffrey. The whole com- munity were shocked and saddened over the affair. He was 35 years of age and some twelve years ago was married to Florence Ewers, of Port Perry, and she and five small children are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. The children are Marjory, John Lucille, Maurice and baby Harold. The funeral was held on "Sunday afternoon from his home here and was private. The Prince Al- bert Hockey team of which Cecil was a member, attended in a body. Rev. |W. J. H. Smyth had charge of the ser- y vice 'and interment was made in Pine Grove Cemetery. The pallbearers were six brothers of deceased, viz. Fred of Weston, Arthur and Howard of Mill= brook, Frank, Albert and Grant of Prince Albert. Another brother, Clarence, of Saskatchewan, did not get home for the funeral. The sincerest sympathy of the whole community is extended to the bereaved ones, and especially to the wife and little child- ren who are so sorely bereaved. SCUCOG © The Reeve and Councillors enter- tained a large number of friends in the Township Hall one night last | week. Our two past Wardens, Messrs. Wm. Jackson and Geo. Sweetman, were present and made very appro- priate addresses also the reeve and councillors. A very enjoyable time was spent by all. Miss Helen Carter entertained a number. of her friends one evening re- cently in honour of 'her birthday. Mr. Milton Demara has had the cast taken off his leg and is getting along fine, Miss Dorothy Fines is improving after having suffered from a broken arm. We are glad to see them out and around again, Miss Capsticks, of Yelverton has been spending a few days with her friend Miss Stella Raymes, Miss Grace: Demara visited her friend with Florence Carter over the week end. Miss Gladys Hallett has returned to her home where she will enjoy a month's vacation, " CHARLES HOWSAM Myr, Charles Howsam of 5642 North Campbell -Ave., Chicago, Ill, passed away on December 4th, 1934. He was born in Greenbank, Ontario, Canada, on September -3rd, 1868, and spent his boyhood days around Utica and Glen Major. At the age of 16 he went to Pinedale for three years. Later he worked at Port Arthur and Dulith, coming to Chicago in 1893. He teamed for four years and then went to work on the street cars. At that time horses were used to turn the cars around ut<iié énd of the run. He has been a devoted employee for 37 years. : Mr. Howsam was a member of the Berry Memorial M. E. Church, later moving to Albany Park M. E, Church. He also was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. : Mr. Howsam is survived by his wife Martha E. Howsam (nee Thompson), two daughters Mrs. W. J. Mitchell, of Port Perry, and Mrs. Ray Drake, of Elmhurst, Ill.; and three sons Hillyard C., Kenneth S. and Charles" W,, all of Chicago, Ill, also Mrs. H. W.
