Town Treasurer's Office, has taken the place of Mr. Barker in the Archer Motor Sales office. : THE MEN'S BIBLE CLASS HOLD FIRST ANNIVERSARY The Men's Bible Class of Port Perry United Church held the first anniver- sary of their organization on Sunday last. The speaker for the occasioh was Mr. W. R. Strike of Bowmanville, whose address was much appreciated by the men. He took for his theme--the church; and dealt with the problems that con- front that organization, It should be remembered that every Christian act, whether it be done by fraternal so- cieties, service clubs, or by private in- dividuals, has been fostered by the church, the most active agency for good in the world. The day is past when fear is the deciding reason for joining the church. Christ's ideal life; willing- ness to serve humanity; and the op- portunity for public worship--these are some of the main reasons for church membership. MEN'S BANQUET SPEAKER The speaker at the Men's Banquet in the United Church on Monday, Nov. 18th, at 6.45 p.m. sharp, will be Rev. W. J. Johnston, Toronto. Mr. John- ston, is an Irishman from Belfast. He began his Canadian ministry in St. Lambert's, Montreal, and from there he was called to Toronto. He is said by some to be one of the best after-dinner speakers in Toronto, and the Class feels that they will be able to sustain the high standard of last year's banquet. S. have put on a play at some time during the year. Each of them has been well presented, and has been of a quality that causes them to be remembered with pleasure, This year the play--"Whittlin"-- was staged by younger members of the school than those who formerly took part. They did their parts well and held the enthusiastic interest of the audience from start to finish. It would be difficult to pick out any particular characters as "stars". They were all "stars", and deserve commendation for the excellent pre- sentation made. "Whittlin" is a type of play well suited to teach the power of.simple Christian trust in a dramatic manner. 'That does not mean that it was lack- ing in humor, nor that it was dull in any sense; but it did show the value 'of kindness practised in the face of unusual difficulties.. Poor little Winnie who has such a time pronouncing her R's is played very well by Agnes Gooder- ham, while' Henry Randall, Bob's father, 'is portrayed by Mr. H. G. Hutcheson--Lord Beasley.: The pop- ular idea of. the slow thinking Briton is interpreted by Owen Cliff, and is a howl; while! Lyman Ross, the man who gave a party with dire results, is played by Bob Ewers. These people along with the peppy darfeers, composed of high school girls, combine to .give you a really good show.
