No. 223 and Queen Victoria Auxiliary, held a roast chicken supper and social evening in their club rooms for members--in good standing with their children. Hon. President James Lucas and Hon. Chaplain Rev. T. A. Nind of the Army-Navy Vets No. 216 were present. Supper was served by the Auxiliary, Mrs. G. Bridger was in charge of the kitchen and Mrs. Cann was in charge of the tables. The Ladies' Auxiliary--entertainment committee assisted. Supper commenced at 6.15 ghiarn, Over seventy were present for the supper. The scattering few who did not turn out missed a real treat. After supper was served Comrades R. Trebell and W. Stoutt got the card tables placed and the euchre and bridge fans taxed their brains for the next two and a half hours. ~~ W.M. Bro. G. H. Bridger, assisted | by Bro. H. Howard, distributed candies and oranges among the child- ,ren and members. At the conclusion of the euchre and bridge, sandwiches cake and coffee were served. The even- ing was called to a close at 11.30. The three organizations have ac- complished more entertainment in the last year than any 'year previous. The reason for this is that an entertain- ment committee was appointed by each organization and they work jointly on all entertainments. ' This has caused also an increase in mem- bership. The Auxiliary have just finished a quilt. This will be disposed of after the New Year, We the members and Presidents of the above organizations wish all our friends who assisted us -in making 1986 a success, a Happy and Prosper- ous New Year. Tea Cup shower, "The Lost § Star" A most impressive presentation of the lovely cantata--*"The Lost tSar" was given by members of the Port Perry United Church Sunday School last Sunday evening. = This musical production was under the direction of Mr. V. P, Stouffer, who is to be con- gratulated upon the excellent chorus {and orchestral results which he se- cured, The dramatic presentation: of the events surrounding the birth of Christ '| and the calling of Philip to follow the Master was carried out most effective- *| ly by the following characters: Mr. and Mrs. Ted Jackson as James and Sarah, the merchants = from Bethesda; Bobby Dowson, as Philip, their son; Owen Cliff,-Philip, 30 years T'later; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Love, the Inn keepers; Mr, and Mrs. S. Plough- man as Joseph and Mary; Charles Reesor, Simon, the messenger; Ivan Dusty, Leonard Colbear and Stanley Gyton, the three shepherds; M. A. Gerrow, Peter. The special singers were: Mrs. Chas. Reesor, Miss Marjorie Pyatt, Mrs. Geo. Palmer, Ms')S, N. Griffen, Mrs, Peterson, Mrs. Smallman, Miss Luella Ploughman, Miss Jean Hopkins, Miss Mary Pyatt, Miss Dora Reesor, Mrs. Sam Cawker. Very large audiences were present at both morning and evening Sunday "School anniversary services, in spite of the inclemency of the weather. At the morning service over which Mr. Smallman, the Superintendent, presided, the scholars gave the musi- cal program, and Rev, W. J. H. Smyth gave a practical address to the child- ren--"Five Kings of Evil" that must be conquered if life is to be useful and happy. One of the loveliest of the choruses in the cantata is given herewith: "The night was calm, the world lay still, In silence deep lay vale and hill; And for his wearied, troubled breast Man, too, had found the boon of rest. The night was calm the stars shone down * Upon a troubled little town, Disturbed by hate, and sorrow torn, And longing for a brighter morn, O holy night of long ago! Shine on us here with inner glow; The world is waiting for a sign: God's fire of love, the light divine, O night so calm o'er Bethlehem! The stars were cold, their light was dim. The world was waiting, waiting, walt- ing for a sign: God's fire of love, the light divine." eA AAP LAWRENCE'S BOYS' AND GIRLS' PRIZE CONTEST WINNERS.
