The United States, with a comparable figure of 197.0, was in second place. Denmark, with 173.9 per capita calls, and Sweden with 152.2, followed. Canada's position among the coun- telephone development in the larger centres - continues to. be impressive, with 18.78 telephones per 100 popula- tion in communities of 650,000 and more, this Dominion ranks sixth in the list. The United States is fifth with a figure of 19.32. - Sweden is the leader in this regard, followed by Switzerland, Norway, and Denmark, in that order. Pn In less peopled areas, Canada ranks in fourth place, this world-wide survey reveals. "Canada, it is shown, has 7.28 telephones in operation per 100 popu- lation in communities. of less than 650,000 persons. Next to the leader- ship of the United States with 9.87, there follow New Zealand with 9.84 and Sweden with 7.66. Fifth, sixth, and seventh positions are taken by Denmark, Switzerland, and Australia, respectively, -- E On the basis of telephone develop- ment throughout the whole population, Canada with 10.99 telephones per one hundred people is second only to the United States with a comparable figure is 13.69 telephones. Denmark is third with 10,64; New. Zealand fourth with 10.69 and Sweden fifth with 10.28. Of telephones in service per 100 population among large cities of the world, Vancouover is fourth, Toronto eleventh and Montreal eigh- teenth in the list. : These latest statistics make it clear that Canadians continue, as they have done over a long period, to place & very high value upon their telephone service, This fact is emphasized in their continuing to be the world's leaders in telephone usage.
