Mr. Owen Cliff recently spent a week in the General Electric Repair Shop, gaining an insight into the electrical repair work. Misses Virginia Nasmith, Joyce Moyle and Mr. Forbes Nasmith, all of Toronto, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. I. R. Bentley. W.C. T. U. The regular monthly meeting of the local W, C. T. U. will be held at the home of Mrs. L. G. Hall, on Wednes- day afternoon, at 3 o'clock. A GOOD THERMOMETER Evidently someone agrees with us that the Port Perry Star thermometer is a desirable piece of property; for the one in front of the office has been stolen, It might be noted that the instrument is° not guaranteed to register the heat in the place re- served for the wicked. GOES INTO TRAINING Misg Patricia Jackson has entered the Western Hospital to take a three- year training course in nursing. Prior to her leaving the Misses Elma and Dora Reesor gave her an evening party, and Miss Helen Anderson a dinner party. "Pat's" many friends join in wish- ing her a successful career. 'BROKEN -ARMS We regret to report that two per- sons had the misfortune to break an arm on Saturday--DMrs. David Steele, Port Perry, and Mr. S. Arnold, of Arnold's - Dairy, Prince Albert. They have our sympathy, and kindly wishes for a speedy recovery as possible. TRIMMING THE TREES An excellent job of tree trimming has been done in Port Perry. This work needed to be done, as there was considerable dead wood in the trees, which not only spoiled their appear- ance, but was an actual source of danger to pedestrians and others on windy days. The Council is to be complimented for having-- this piece of work done. Save the old trees and plant new ones would be a good slogan for Port Perry. W. M. 8S. The regular monthly meeting of the Wonien's Missionary Society of the Port Perry United Church was held on Wednesday, February 9th, at the home of Mrs. Geo. Jackson. Follow- ing the reading of the reports and a discussion of business 'Mrs. Smallman lead in the devotional exercises. A very helpful article on "The Church in Aotion in the Nation" was read by Mrs. Smallman and Mrs. Walker led in prayer. The chapter of our Study Book, dealing with "The Light of the Mind", was most ably taken by Mrs. Murphy. She pointed out the growth and influence of religious education in Trinidad, Japan and other parts of the -..Far East, Then Mrs. L. This generous offer is most sincerely ap- preciated. The outstanding feature of the Lions program was the address by Lion Rev. J. C. Clough, descriptive of conditions in the Peace River Valley. Mr. Clough had been a missionary in the Peace district, and brought to his hearers a vivid picture of the daily lite of the settlers there, illustrated by snapshots taken on the spot. He gave glowing accounts of the prolific vegetation produced in the brief spring and summer season; of the loyalty of the people to their homes; of the need of the church; and;some TRUE ECONOMY When you buy at BOYNTON"S you get the meat that has the rich juicy flavor. The final sco, was 6-4 for "the pictures of roads and low tempera- ture that were not so inviting. The meeting was held in the Parish hall of the Church of the Ascension, where the ladies of the church had prepared a most oppetizing oyster supper. } Lions Kerr and Cornish reported gbod times with the "Midgets" hockey players, and Lion Father Coffey brought a challenge from Newmarket to Port Perry to a game of broom hockey to be played at the Port Perry Carnival, to be held on Friday, Feb: 26th, : - -------- LIONS MIDGET AND JUVENILE HOCKEY The Lions Club of Port Perry sponsored another big night of hockey at the rink when three games ot hockey were played. The first game was between the league leading Ma- roons and Canadiens. The Canadiens came out on top by the score of 2-0. Jeffrey and Stephens played well but they are inclined to play solo most of the time. Alan Colbear in goal for the Maroons let one long shot. go _by him but even Broda does that same thing in the professional game. Gor- don Carnegie and Jack MacGregor make a fine rear-guard for the Ma- roons. The second game was a one-sided affair when the Blackhawks swamped the Leafs by a score of 6-1. Art Brown and Jack Sangster were too much for the Leafs who were without the services of two boys from the country. For the next game, Jack Sangster is going to play for the Leafs and J. Ballard will play for the Black Hawks. Bob Pipe played well in the nets for the Leafs while Grant McDermott worked hard. : The Midget Standing W. L. T. Pts.
