Canadian Production value of the "dairy factory industry was $134,951, 389, in 1937, an 11 per cent. increase over 1936, it was reported by the Do- minion Bureau of Statistics. Production of creamery butter was 246,870,449 pounds, valued at $64,161,- 616. This was a decrease in quantity from the preceding year of 4,061,326 pounds, or two per cent. but an in. crease in value of $6,199,466, or 11 per cent. The average price a pound jumped from 22.91 cents in 1936 to 25.99 cents in 1937. Ontario led the Provinces in but- ter production with 91,396,261 pounds and Quebec was second with 74,371,616 pounds. The relationship with the production of each province to the total for Canada as shown by percent- ages follows: Ontario 33; Quebec 30; Alberta 11; Manitoba 10; Saskatche- wan 10; Nova Scotia 2; British Col- umbia 2; New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island 1 each. Compared with the preceding year, Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia recorded decreases in quan- tity of output, while the other Pro- vinces showed increases. Production of factory cheese in 1937 totalled 130,228,402. This was an in- creased in quantity over 1936 of 11,- 104,856 pounds and increase in value of $2,359,689.
