Election of Officers. A HA- S PP Hubbell Arrested in Oregon (Toronto Dialy Star) Oshawa, Nov. 2.--Following a six- weeks' search by police in Canada and the United States, Albert J. Hubbell, wanted here on charges of false pre- tenses, was arrested in Port land, Ore gon, yesterday, Chief Constable Owen D. Friend stated last night that Hub- bell will be brought back to trial as soon as extradition is arranged. Hubbel is charged with procuring a car by issuing a worthless cheque. With his when he was arrested was a young woman, - Hubbel attended a meeting of physicians here allegedly posing as a doctor from Timmins. The Oshawa woman went with the supposed Tim- mins physician as his assistant in a hospital which he was to open, police say. Since that time police have been unable to gain only fleeting informa- tion of his whereabouts. Early this week, the federal bureau of investigation at Washington was notified by authorities here and a complete description of the man and girl sent to the American capital. Province to Bring Him Back The province will bring Hubbell back to stand trial in Ontario County, and extradition proceedings will be taken if necessary, Attorney-General G. D. Conant said to-day. "We are getting in touch with Oregon police immed- iately to ascertain whether they are holding him on any charge. He will be brought back as soon as eircum- stances permit. "As to the young lady, there are no grounds on which the province could, or any reason why the province should, bring her back." cert eset PAD A ecient HALLOWEEN The spooks and sprites behaved un- usually well. Of course, they cut up some didos, and we are sorry to hear that they destroyed a fence in front of Mrs. Bickle's property. That is not sport, and it would be a good move if our young folk would see that that kind of thing is not done. The good spirit of fun is always appreciated, and most householders treat the little sprites pretty well. Mr. Cornish is to be complimented on the Hallowe'en Party he put on at the school. SERVICE (Continued from front page.) service is a duty, and a duty that every individual owes his community, whether or not he is a member of a service club. I would not for one moment have you think that the service that a Lions Club can render, can be demonstrated only in the work carried on among the blind, the youth, and other groups in the community. Lions Service means infinitely more than that. It is a state of citizenship that recognizes its whole duty to the community. What better way could I explain it to you than to tell you what I con- ceive to be a real Lion. The words I am about to quote have been used to describe a good Christian, and I think they can equally apply to a Lion. Here they are: He is a good Lion when he can look out over the rivers, hills and the far horizon, with a profound sense of his own littleness in the vast scheme of things, and yet have faith, hope and courage, which is the root of every virtue. When he knows down in his heart that every man is as noble, as vile, as divine, as diabolic and as lonely as himself and yet seeks to know, to for- OSHAWA AIR-CONDITIONED Thursday, Friday, Saturday, November 3-4-5 : The greatest Heart Drama of the year: 'BOYS TOWN' starring Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney (A Quiz Contest Picture) | REVIVAL, Friday at 10.30 p.m. "LIFE BEGINS IN COLLEGE" with Ritz Bros. The October meeting of the W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs. Hattie Hudgins on Thursddy afternoon, the { hostess with Mrs. Holliday assisting. president, Mrs, Honey, presiding. After the opening hymn 488 the pres:- dent led in prayer, Scripture passages were read by Mrs, Holiday and Mrs. Hudgins, 'the roll call was responded to by a Thanksgiving thought. Mrs. Chisholm and other members gave a very interesting dialogue on temper- ance. During the discussion period it was decided that in answer to various appeals a bale of clothing should be sent to the needy in the West. A solo by Mrs. C. Harrison brought the meeting to' a close, then the ladies were invited to the dining room where a dainty lunch was served by the A glorious autumn day, a tastefully decorated church and the pastor Rev. Wil- her to win by a close margin. Burnsell Webster and Bob Vernon were winners of the banana contest. Bananas are good; to eat them is good too, but to feed one to your partener while both are blindfolded and he is feeding you one too, is some fun--for the audience! } "A comic duet by Mr. and Mrs. Tot- ton was--quch--appreciated as were several other musical numbers includ- ing a vocal duet by Merlin Gilroy and Jack Stevens; a guitar'solo by Wallace Armstrong, and a sad, sad song by two forsaken but still hopeful old maids, who resembled Buster Stevens and Ernest Gilroy. Roy Corbman gave an interesting mathematical demon- stration which, he felt, the Dept. of Education would hardly want to copy. Lunch was served followed by games and "gossip", Everyone .reported a good time, This is only the third meeting of the group, and it may be opportune at this time to report upon its founding.
