He left on Sunday for London, where he will take a two weeks' course in telephone work, Mr. ad Mrs. Fred Brock have re- turned home, after a pleasant winter spent in Florida. Alderman and Mrs. Wm. Collings, of Toronto, spent the week-end with Mrs. Collings' parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Frise. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Casey of Little Britain, spent a day last week with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Frise. Messrs. Garnet Raymes, of Welland, George Raymes, of Brighton, Wilbert Raymes, of Toronto, were in town this week attending the funeral of their , father, the late George Raymes. Miss Enid Wallace, who has return- ed to civilian life, after serving with the Airforce W.D. at Rockeliffe, and with the C.W.A.C., at Winnipeg, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. The Department of Transport has promised the Club to examine the buoys in Lake Scugog as soon as the water gets to normal level, and to see what can be done in regard to re- moval of these buoys that are sub- merged, to made boating more safe. Harper's afternoon tea. There wag some discussion as to the lunches now that the group system had start- ed. Some thought there should be a set rule to abide by, others favoured the plan of serving what they wished. After the repeating of the Mizpah benediction, Group one had charge of the following program and the lunch. Mrs. Bonnell conducted two quiz con- '| tests, ene was a- Bible quiz and the ladies were divided into groups of five. The group knowing their Bible best had nine out of thirteen correct an- swers. Mrs, L. Munro gave a very pleasing reading in her capable man- ner. Mrs, G. Ferris read a fine and timely article, "The Church in the Rural Community." This reading was much appreciated as one thinks of the number of empty pews in the Church to-day. A few excerpts are worthy of comment. "The church has a place for everyone from the cradle to the grave, Through the Sunday School she has a far-reaching and refining influence upon - the general public, Statistics prove that very few crim- inals ever attended Sunday School."
