ANNIVERSARY - Sunday, December 28th, was a hap- py time for the children of the United Church Sunday School. It was the day of the anniversary that had to be postponed because of church decora- tion, : ea At the morning service under the direction of Mrs, 4," M. Jackson, the Primary Department-gave a number of choruses and special individual musical numbers and recitation, which were much enjoyed by the children and the congregation. Rev. Mr, Smith ad- dressed the children. A generous special collection was given in aid of the Sunday School work. : .At the evening service tid senior scholars presented a musical program entitled "The Bells of Peace". This special feature was given under the direction of the Superintendent, Mr, R. B. Smallman. Ten lovely choruses' were sung, in- terspecsed with many suitable recita- tions and readings, ~ Mr. S. Griffen, presided. The Sunday School has been doing good work during the year. An un- ary Department, which now numbers abous sixty, or nearly half the total enrolment in the school. 1t. is expected that extensive im- provements in the Sunday School room will be completed in 1948. ;, HOLSTEIN NEWS The annual meeting of the Ontario County Holstein Breeders Club was held in.the Department of Agriculture office, Uxbridge, on Saturday, Dec. 13. ~ Orvan Chambers, president: of the club, was in charge of the meeting. -Mr. Jim Brown, Newcastle, who is a Director of the National Holstein- Friesian Association; gave an inter- esting talk on affairs relating to the National Association. He stated that registrations of Holstein Cattle show- ed a 'decided increase over last year. Transfers, however, have shown a slight decline. : Mr, Joe Darlington, Todmorden, salesman for Ontario County Holstein Breeders' Club reported on sales dur- ing the year. He pointed out that Ontario County had 1356 members for 1947 in the Holstein Club. This was the highest membership for any coun- ty in the Province of Ontario. He also pointed out that Ontario County herds had made a particularly good showing at local and district Black & White Days. At the district Cham- pionship Black & "White Show in Peterboro, "Ontario County won the Premier County herd award. They also won 11 firsts out of a possible 174 firsts. Mr. H, L.
