PORT PERRY YACHT CLUB I've nattered about all the activities of the Yacht Club in this column with one exception, that is yachting, Silly isn't it? With the whirk of social activities and work during the past two months we seem to have lost track of the main purpose of our club, that of yachting, primarily sail rac- ing. However, we are reminded of these things when we start to think about our Presentation Dance, which will be held on the nineteenth of this month at the schobl, costing two-fifty for two heads. (Always good to work in a plug if it can be done with ease.) To return to the point of my article, yachting. sweet little Pram to that great big cruiser of Ran's, the greatest interest seems to be in our racing. - Which brings us back to our dance again. presenting trophies to the winners of the season's racing. This year Wes Jackson won the lst division cup and Pete Sulman . the Pram Cup. Though McMillan and each other, sink their enemies boats, 1 shall explain this division business classics. PPYC to a glorious victory in the free-for-all at Caesarea on August 1st. Caesarea on August 1st. 'Joe Bush' materfully to win Now for this a result varying speeds, and Pram. This does not mean that all boats of one class are all put in the same division. A boat of one class might be faster than another boat of the same class through some quirk in the construction. Boats are put in divisions only on merits of speed. As an example, the 'Joe Bush' is about the fastest in our fleet and the 'Tern' or 'Turn is the slowest, yet they were both constructed from the same plans. Now with that cleared up (I hope), I shall tell you how these races are run off." All skippers are qualified to race a particular type of boat, some two types of boats, and others are what we call 'unlimited'. Before a person can become a skipper he or she must pass tests as laid down by the officers. Prior to the beginning of the race all skippers qualified to race the first division are called together to draw a boat out of a hat, the same procedure being followed by all skip- pers of all divisions. - This method assures the committee that it is the men who are winning races not the boats. It is the only fair method un- der the circumstances. This should give you some idea as to the purpose of the Yacht Club and how it carries out its aims. Winter Socials, etec., are not what the club is for but serve to make:it enjoyable for those who are not overly interested in the maritime end of things. ; Joan and Butch are going to run things for the 'open house' on Satur- day 'evening but are keeping their ideas under their hats so I; have no idea what is going to happen to us. You'll just have to come and find dut for yourselves. Joan thinks eight- thirty would be a good time for you to put in an appearance if you can do go. If not, come after work; but don't let the kids down! * For details about the dance I men- tion keep your eyes peeled for the orange posters we have posted up around the town. If this effort sounds sadly disjoint- ed, don't blame your poor tired old scribe; © blame - the 'two chattering women who have been standing over him bimping their gums about Boris gink called Dick Hames. Their names Helen Cook and Joan . Borrowdals! Bless their dear little hides! The reason being that I hanged my own machine and have had to solicate the use of Edna Starkey's, and sit in the smoke-filled. gloom of Billy Taylor's joint to write it. One cannot think consistantly in such surroundings. Having left myself open for many miserable cracks I shall leave your feeble minds to work on that opening.
