Holstein Breaders Conduct Bus Tour On Saturday, February 18th, sixty- three Holstefn Breeders from Ontario County boarded two buses for a visit ito. some of the outstanding Holstein herds in Toronto, Brampton district. 'The first stop was at the farm of Mr, George Jackson, Downsview, Here an hour was spent-in looking over Mr. Jackson's very fine herd of Holstein cattle. A good deal of interest was centred around' Mr. Jackson's "Re- serve All-Canadian" herd stre--Remb- co Texal Sovereign. The next stop was at Maple where the group visited The Maple Cattle Breeders' - Association, the Artificial Insemination Unit. Mr. G. W. Keffer, Manager of the!Unit, spent conglder- able time in outlining the pedigrees of the various bulls in-the Unit, A large number of those on the bus tour had a definite interest in the Maple Unit since they are members, and this was their first 'opportunity- of-- seeing the "bulls that they are using on their herds. The next "stop 'wag at the farm of Mr. Jack Greenwood. Mr. Green- wood's herd .is not large but he has some very high quality females. This statenfent is backed up by the fact that Mr. Greenwood ha" three cows graded "excellent". This {s quite an achievement for one farmer. ~~ The next stop was at the Rosafe "Farms just West of Brampton. This . is a large and very excellent herd. The Rosafe Herdsman, Mr, Cliff Chant, did a splendid job in outlining the pedi- gree of a large number of individuals in this herd. The final visit for the day was made at the farm of Mr. Jack Fraser, Bram- pton. Mr. Fraser has a very excel- lent herd. The cow which probably. was of greatest interest to the group was Mr. Fraser's "All-Canadian Aged Cow"--S8pring; Farm Juliette. Many of the Breeders on the trip had seen this cow made "The Grand Champion Female" at the Royal Winter Fair, so they were interested in seeing her in her home stable, This is the first bus trip that the Breeders, of Holstein cattle in Ontario County have taken. In all probability andther trip will be organized next year to visit outstanding herds in the province. -------------------- Prince Albert, ~ Greenhouse SPECIALS FOR WEEK END Daffodils.
