Much to our surprise, this 'was a very large program consisting 'of approximately 100 entertainers be- ginning at 7.30 p.m. and lasting until 12 midnite. Many famous personal- ties are on this program; such as, Red Foley, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams and lately Mervin Shiner, who wrote and sang "Peter Cotton- tail." The audience who witness this pro- gram every Saturday night are stu- pendous. Ten thousand people, at least, were in_the Opera House, -if that's what you could call it. From our_ observations, it was built about 200 years ago and very little has been changed or cleaped since. Reserved seats must be obtained at seats go on sale the morning of the show and one should be there. very carly to obtain them. The prices for the seats are very reasonable. Thirty -cents --for--rush--seats--and- sixty-five: cents for reserved seats. Ve 'had rush seats and bought them at 30. a, a. and were told to be in our. places. by 5 p.m. to assure of a good spot for. the program. Believe it or not we sat seven long hours to sce one of the most sought-after shows on _American Radio. Programs are generally divided into half-hour shows sponsored by leading companies. S tion W.S.M. is owned and operated by National Life and Accident Insurance Company of Nashville. The Grand Ole Opry was started in 1925 by "The Solemn Old Judge, Geo. Hay"- who still is Master of Cere- monies and announces some of the programs. (This show goes on the N.B.C. 'hook-up at 10.30. After listeniing to a program of opera music from Walter Damrosch, George Hay was inspired to start a program that was more or less closer to the ground to consist of Folk and. Mountain Music which was in-keeping with the country around him. New York by Dr: « Fred G. Christie.
