A general tour that morning took us down the East River to the tern in the heart of the city. 'Street, and the Battery. tions were less. a triple thrill. we sped up through the R.C.A. building in the express elevator which goes non-stop for 53 floors. Finally we lunched 800 feet above ground level at the Luynch- eon Club in the Rainbow Room. The clear visibility allowed us a wonderful view of the city sprawl- ing at our feet. It is impossible to walk far in New. York without coming face to face with a yellow sign bearing the one word "shelter", and an arrow. These air raid shelter signs are a perpetual reminder that all is not as well in the world as we would like. ; New Yorkers are very air raid conscious and when one considers the havoc that even one bomb would do in this jam-packed me- tropolis their fears are under- standable. Our first day in the "big city" came to an end 'with dinner at Manny Wolfe's Steak and Chop 'House and then off we went up the "Great White Way" to the revue "Two On The Aisle". That is all for the present. When I next write I shall be able to look from my hotel window into London's Hyde Park and watch the traffic streaming under Maible Are WMS The Evening Auxiliary of the uary meeting at Mrs. Fred De- Nure's home on Thursday, Jan. 10th.
