For the home squad Marion. Leask with two baskets and Helen Hickling with a pair of baskets plus a single successful free-throw were tops in the scoring. The second game pitted the junior boys' squads against each other In what turned out to be a much higher scoring game. Lanky Earle Dobson got the visitors off to a commanding lead as he sank six baskets and one free-throw in the first half; this com- | bined with the scoring punch of Don Hadden and Jack Owen saw the visi- tors end the second quarter with a comfortable 24-7 lead. With regulars Owen, Dobson, War- riner, Hadden and Lawrence sitting out the third quarter for Port Perry, Uxbridge raised the score to 18 - 27 with Gleason, E. Fallows and Colby leading a strong offensive for Ux- bridge. With: the Port regulars back for the final Quarter, the visitors put on quite a scoring drive, and with the aid of a gift basket (that resulted when an Uxbridge guard was attempt- ing to clear) ran the score to 48-21, this being the largest tally for the Port Juniors in a single contest this season. Big Earle Dobson of Port Perry was the scoring hero of the contest as he accounted for 17 of his team's aggregate, while Owen with 12 and Hadden with 10 points were key figures in the winners offense. Law- rence and Warriner came up with fine defensive work to -disorganize some fine attempts by the Uxbridge lads. For the losers, Gleason, Colby and Fallows were the stars from the Uxbridge quintet. The third and fourth contests saw the senior girls and boys participate in two very close contests. These were in doubt from beginning to end. with the lead changing hands several part in all this. The sr. girls' tussle was a real thriller with the home squad taking a 38 point lead early in the contest and while the un- defeated Port gals occasionally surged into a tie, the Uxbridge girls came right back and had a commanding margin in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter, but Cathy Hall evened the score at 17 and seconds before the quarter ended Mayrene James sank the deciding basket, hence the visitors emerged on the long end of a 19-17 tally. . For Uxbridge Barb Horn, Kay Crosby and Jean Pearson looked good in defeat while sharp-shooting Cathy Hall with 10 points and the fine of- fensive and general play of Mayrene James were highlights in the P.P.H.S. victory. : The final game, featuring the sr. boys' quintets provided a fine climax to a full afternoon of basketball that, despite the fact it was played on an extremely small floor was marked by clean play and commendable sports- manship. (With Principal Bernhardt of Uxbridge getting assistance from senior students from the two schools the officiating was unquestionable in both boys' tilts and added to the ef- fectiveness of the exhibitions.) The senior contest opened with the "home quintet surging into an early | four point lead, the visiting Port lads had knotted the count 17-all by half time. Haugen, Waldinsperger and Sulman sparked the visitors offense | during this twenty minutes while the Uxbridge cagers were equally led by Fawns and Linton, ; In the early minutes of the third quarter Norm Haugen found his scor- ing eye, and together with some fine shooting and general play by Sulman the visitors shot into an early lead only to have the homesters knot the iscore 28 all at the three-quarter | mark. Leading the scoring splurge for the Uxbridge lads were Linton, Blackburn and Lockie. Thus the fi- nal stanza alone was left to decide the issue. The lead changed back and forth-in the early minutes of the last quarter but finally the Port sr. team surged ahead with Haugen, Ken- | | health and expression.
