February 29th, sixty Holstein Breeders from Ontario Coun- ty made a bus trip to York and Sim- - J coe Counties for the purpose of see- ing. outstanding herds of Holstein cattle. The first stop was made at Eaton Hall Farm, King, Besides the splen- did Holstein herd at Eaton Hall there was a good deal of interest shown in riding horses and the greenhouse, After leaving Eaton Hall Farm, the next call was at the farm of Mr. Chas. Cerswell, Beeton. The Ontario Hol- stein Breeders were particularly in- terested in seeing the progeny of the two great herd sires Montvic Rag Apple Marksman and Rowsdale Rag Apple Sovereign. The progeny of these two herd sires are very uniform. The first call in the afternoon was made to the famous Glenafton herd owned by Mr. Jack McCague at Allis- ton. Here the Ontario County breed- ers had the opportunity of seeing Marksman and to see a large number of his progeny, both male and female. Mr. McCague is using three out- standing sons of Marksman in his herd at the present time. He also has a splendid herd of females. Mr, Mc- Cague took time from his talk on his Holstein breeding program to outline some of his farm practices. This proved most interesting, particularly his outline of his pasture and grass silage program, The final visit of the day was made to the farm of Mr. Elmer Stoltz, Mr. J Stoltz.is using artificial insemination entirely in the breeding of his herd. he is operating at the present time. He has a splendid herd of foundation animals and is in a good position to go ahead and develop an outstanding herd. All the Oitario County Holstein Breeders who took the trip were agreed that this was a very education- | al and 'worthwhile trip. BE -- CONSERVATION CORNER The Fish and Game Committee of the Legislature' will hold ses- sions in the main Parliament Building on March I8th and 19th. The first day's deliberations will be devoted to matters pertain- ing to fish. and the second day's session to game. These meetings are arranged to 'provide for Game and Fish Pro- tective Associations and other organized groups or individuals interested to present their views. It is the hope that these meet- ings will result in many construct- ive suggestions for management. It has been finished inside with nat- ural plywood with a kitchen installed in basement to be completed with built-in cupbords. These are notf, quite finished. A serving room has been built on ground floor and a dumb waiter installed. The dishes. for the building have been donated by the Guides and Brownies Mother's Aux- illiary and are very nice. The prize winners were: 1st' lady, Mrs. Wm, Day, 2nd lady, Mrs. Aylmer Ploughman; 1st gentleman, Morley Moase; 2nd gentleman, Tug Wilson. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. A, Cox and Mr. Arthur Cox.
