Cecile, Q.C,, Minister |Jr. Farmer Choir Presents Song Festival "This is My Country" was the theme of the song festival staged' at the Uxbridge Music Hall on Saturday night, April 23rd, and after 'hearing it, it .is certain that Canada could proudly respond "These Are My Peo- ple." «The Junio#=Farmer Choir, under the capable and charming direction of Mrs, 'Elsie Dobson, gave the audience two solid hours of delightful enter- tainment, The only sour note in the whole evening was the "fact that the hall was not filled to capacity. From the moment the choir sang their theme song "This is My County" until they ended with the same theme, the audience demonstrated their ap- precifftion with hearty applause. The choir, made up of forty Junior Farm- er and Junior Institute members from widely scattered areas in the county, sang their way from Negro spirituals. to dance ditties, from European melo- dies to hillbilly. tunes. They danced their way through a charming. Scot- tish Schottische and swung their part- ners in a.country square dance. The humorous - melodies of "H.M.S. Pina- " "met with audience approval, as did the song-acting in the presentation fore of "would you rather be a mule?" (Swinging on a Star). The Uxbridge Junior Farmer Quar- tette, - Jack Pearson, Walter Kerry, Hugh Baird and Alan Ball, delighted the audience with several numbers. Soloists, Elizabeth Deeming, Jeanette Dobson, Hugh Baird and Walter Ker- ry, are all to be complimented on their vocal capabilities, Compliments, are also extended te the decoration committee for their general stage effects which 'helped to bring aut the Canadian theme, Piano accompiniment wag ably sup- plied by Mys. Gertrude. Jackson, and by Miss Jeanne Pearson for thé num- bers by the Quartette. At the close of the coneert, Mr. Hugh Baird called the diréetor, Mrs. Dobson, forward. and, with words of appreciation for her work with the choir, presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Flowers were also presented to Mrs, Jackson and Murs. Dulcie Colby. Don't miss this show when it comes to Port Perry Public School on Fri- day evening, May 6th.
