8---THE PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, MAY 2nd, 1957 Blackstock The April meeting of the W.A. of St. John's church Blackstock had an attendance of 13 members, and was in charge of Miss Parr in the absence of the President Mrs. Hamilton who is visiting her daughter in Winnipeg. The devotional was taken by Mrs. Mec- Arthur. The minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report were given and accepted. The corr.- sec'y read a letter of thanks from " Rev. P, G.-Powell for the sympathy card he and his family received at the 'time of Mrs. Powell's passing. Mrs. Chaperlain suggested Easter cards be sent to Mr. W. Lamb, Mr. Henry Thompson and Rev. Pelletier who are ill. It was décided to have a combined reception for our new rector and his wife and the social evening for the congregation with which the men's club closes for the summer months. The evening in question being May 9. The birthday box received a donation from Mrs. J. Carter. Mrs. Bone took the Study Book, Chapter III "The Road is Rough" and held a question- aire. At the close of the meeting lunch was served by Group I with Mrs, Ira Argue as convener. Don't forget May 9th, the Men's Club of the Anglican Church will hold their annual "Open Night" and social evening and in connection with it will be a Reception for Canon and Mrs. Chaperlin, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bowles took two car loads of students from the upper grades to Toronto Friday night to see "She Stoops to Conquer" Crest Theatre. There was a fair attendance at the Firemen's picture "The Maggie" in the recreation centre Friday night, A miscellaneous shower was held in the Community Hall Saturday night in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Law- rence who was married a week ago Saturday. Mrs. Geo, Prosser was at chair lady for the program and the young couple received a good many gifts, The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing and lunch. Con- gratulations and Best Wishes Jno. and Mrs. Lawrence, Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Cecil Wilson on the passing of her father Mr, Wm. R. Lamb on Friday. Sorry to report Mr, Henry Thomp- son is in Port Perry Hospital. ir. Stanley Malcolm returned from Florida last week. 3 Thirteen couples enjoyed a pleas- ant evening in the United Church Wednesday. There was .a discussion on the pro's and con's of Family Pews, some games Sunday ~ School rooms and lunch. The rug purchased by this club for the nursery room has arrived and been laid which makes a decided improvement, Meeting closed with devotions. Two euchrg parties were held in the village this week.
