Thirteen of our Cubs met in Man- chester at about 8.00 p.m. last Sat- day, where they were met by three cars, The Island boys met at John Sweetman's and came a little later. It was a wonderful ride, to the Hunt- ers' Lodge about 100 miles away. The meals were first rate, and we say "thank you" to Catharine Martyn for the excellent stew and delicious cakes. We had ample and experienced help in the kitchen, with Margaret Wither- spoon, Mabel Sweetman, Catharine Martyn. I think we over-estimated the capacity of the boys, (miraculoys!) because much of the supplies taken had to be carted back home, Mar- garet was most generous and donated the drinks. We made an exploration into thessurrounding area with John Sweetman as guide, John did a fine piece of work, and not only knew his country; but was most interesting. we saw where the prospectors had staked their claims, and the boys were able to bring away sample of rocks excavated by the drills. All thst country is rich in uranium, and we visited one of the near by mines. After a most interesting day, we re- turned home, arriving at Manchester at about 8.00 p.m. There was only one regret, that Akela (Jack Witherspoon) could not be with us. Our assistant Cub Leader. Allen Martyn took his Our churches at Manchester and Prospect were beautifully decorated on Sunday, as expressions of our thanks to God, Scugog will be this coming Sunday, which will be Anni- versary Sunday, At 'Manchester three of our boys sang "For the beauty of the earth." The ministers text was taken from Psalm 95--"Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with Psalms." We are glad to have the Savilles, Cornishes, Kanes, jand other friends of the Island, also Dr. Kenneth Braham and his fiancé Joan Wildall.!
