Michael Starr, Federal minister of labour who won' the riding. for the PC's last June. Meanwhile, there was speculation as to whether John W, Naylor, form- er mayor of Oshawa, would represent the CF. When questioned regarding his plans he replied: "no comment" but the riding CCF association Is scheduled to hold a meeting soon at which the question of a candidate will be_discussed. Mr. Starr won the Ontario riding race last June 10 with a total vote of 18,386 as compared with 13,726 votes for John W. Naylor, CCF candidate, and, 10,768 for Dr. Claude Vipond, the She is saving so she can continue her music studies ° at dy 0] Both have a bank account - and a purpose for saving "THE CHARTERED BANKS SERVING YOUR COMMUNITY The difference between reaching a goal and missing it can be the savings you put by, now, in a bank account. Such sayings don't just happen. They involve some sacrifice, definite planning. But as your dollars mount up you feel a sense of accomplishment, of getting somewhere, that makes the effort more than worth while, Your bank account provides ready cash that can help take care of any emergency that may arise, or open the way to bargains or other opportunities. March Ist. Young musicians and vocalists from over 130 communities in Ontario and fram centres in Quebec province and New York State converge on Toronto later this month (February) on what could be the beginning of the road to stardom. Thelr immediate goals are the cer- tificates, shields and the $6,600 in scholarships and cash awards which await winners in the 16th annual Ki- wanis' Music Festival of Greater Tor- onto... But if past experience is any indeation, this will be only the begin- ning for the talented. Dates for the 1958 festival are Feb. 17th to March 1st. The 18,000 par- ticipants who make up this year's list of better than 2,600 entries including both individual and group competi- tions, is the highest number in recent years. Biggest increase has been in the classes covering school bands and orchestras, where the entry list of 47 and 25 respectively has set a new mark. THE PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18th, 1066-5 The boost in entries of bands and orchesitas has literally forced Kiwan- ians to "hire a hall" this year. For the competitions on February 22, there will 'be morning and afternoon ses- sions at 'Central Technical School as well as the five other downtown Tor- onto locations to be used six days a week during the two weeks of compe- tition. The daily morning and after- noon classes will be held at the Cana- | dian Legion's College Street Halls, Central YMCA, Sherbourne Street Utfited Church, Evangel Temple on Dundas Street East and Eaton Audi- torium. In addition, there will be performances each evening during the competitions at Eaton -~Auditorium where finalists will compete for top marks. To carry the "road to stardom" theme a step further, Kiwanians will again be presenting their two "Stars of the Festival" concerts at Toronto's Massey Hall. A special committee, working on recommendations from the festival's six adjudicators, will select the cream of the classes to take part ° in Massey Hall performances, to be. held on March 3rd and 4th, x of Reach. be $1.00 per hour. + feb20-568 AA A OA SATA AR A I IN SH Tetetatatatetet TENDERS TOWNSHIP OF REACH Tenders will be received up to [February 28th, 1958, for Inspectors for Warble Fly Spraying of Cattle in the Twp.
