Obituary JOHN "A, SPENCER Cedar Creek lost one of it's oldest | resident's on Sunday in the death of John Albert Spencer at the Port Perry Community Hospital. The de- ceased had been ill since Christmas day and had been a patient in Hos- pital since Tuesday. He was born on August 19th, 1884, in the Cedar Creek area on the farm where Stan Robinson now lives. He had lived his entire life in the district and had resided on his farm on the ridges for over 60 years. He was the second son of the late Thomas Spencer and his wife, the former Emmerline Corner. Predeceased by his older brother, George Lorne Spencer in 1953 and a sister, Violet who died in infancy, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Walter Manns, Pearl of Raglan, and Flossie, at home. Also surviving are two brothers, Stanley and Richard at home. The deceased was never married. The late Mr. Spencer was a Liberal and had been poll captain and scru- tineer for the Liberal candidates at several recent elections. He had been an auditor for the school sec- tions on the Cedar Creek books be- fore the School area. Board was formed. ~t Funeral services will be conducted at the McDermott-Panabaker Chapel, Port Perry on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00 O'Clock, by the Rev. J. K, Braham. Interment will be in the family plot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. Hilltop Herald ,By Darlene Christie Hi folk! There is no extra-special news to report this week except that members of Student's Council are bustling about, decorating, selling tickets and making ready for the "At Home" 'on Friday night,. March 21st. This is our formal dance of the year and all students and: ex-students aré invited to attend. Something else that might be of interest, but not good news to stu- dents, would "be that Easter Exams are upon us! On Monday, several grades wrote exams, more of which will be written and finished next week. All foolishness ceases and craming begins, for a week or two, at least. We were honoured last week to re- ceive a congratulatory letter from Dr. M, B. Dymond, to the Sr. boys and girls basketball teams. Dr, Dy- mond highly praised the team mem- bers for their display of tireless ef- fort and good sportsmanship through out the league games and COSSA finals at Barrie recently. Last week the; boys played volley- ball and Grade 12 defeated 11A, 15-6. In girls basketball the semi-finals have begun. Teams I, IV, V, VIII are the four competing teams. On Thursday 18th, Team I (D. Samells) defeated VIII' (B. Wallis). The many girls who played hockey last week really enjoyed themselves, so much so that nobody minded at all the numerous bumps and tumb- les. This week they'll be at it again. The girls 'who couldn't be accomo- dated last week will play. Bob and Gary who were so helpful last week will be there also. This activity gives the girls a conception of why men enjoy the game so much.
