DISTRICT CHURCHES Scugog, Manchester and Fromm United Beautiful Easter services were held | at all three churches on Sunday, Rev. John Braham delivered the Easter message. At Scugog Grace United, the senior choir sang the anthem "They Have Taken Away My Lord". Although the weather was cloudy and wet, the church was filled. The choirs at Man- chester and Prospect churches were in attendance, and a Baptismal service was held at Prospect church, Mar- garet Janet Holtby, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Holtby, and Ruth Mae Smitherman, infant daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. James Smither- man, were baptised by Rev, Braham. An impressive evening service was held at The Head Memorial Church, Scugog. A Gospel Quartette was sung by Mrs. Steward Rodman, her mother, Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. Thos, Red- man and Mrs, Alan Carter, Our Father and Son Banquet last week Tuesday was a big success, when approximately fifty sat down for sup- per. In the absence of the chairman of the group committee, Mr. Frank Henry took over. The mothers are to be commended for the delicious turkey supper they served, which was much enjoyed. The programme was held in the auditorium of the Man- chester church. Rev. Braham led in a sing-song. Mr. Jack Witherspoon outlined for us the high lights in Cub activities during the past year, and Allen and Catherine Martyn presented the following Proficiency badges: George Smith, House Orderly, Toy- maker badges; Eldon Smith, "House Orderly, Toymaker Badges; J. D. Witherspoon, Collectors, Teamplayer badges; Steve Henry, Collector badge; Eric. Donnelly, Collectors badge; Walter Green, Collectors badge; Bill Diamond, Collectors badge. We were fortunate to have Rev. F. Jackson, United Church Minister of Tyrone, to mystify and entertain us with magic. He was greatly enjoyed. Moving pictures were shown by Mrs, Catherine Martyn on the postal sys- tem of Canada. The ladies were duly 'thanked by Tom Donnelly, the secretary of the group committee. The programme was brought to a close by Akela (Allen Martyn) calling the Pack together to give the Grand Howl and to sing the National Anth- em. We are very greatful to all the fathers who were 100% present. The work that the boys did for their badges were on display. Thanks to Arnold Roach for the time spent in examining the toys, and also for play ing for the sing-song. This coming. week the Manchester Stewards will make their annual can- vass. Weleome them when id call, and support them. The Mothers' Auxiliary of the Cubs will meet on April 16th at 8 p.m. at the-home of Mrs. Frank Henry, at Manchester. This coming Sunday, April 13th, the ladies of the three churches will have charge of the services. We are very fortunate to have Miss Beatrice Wil- son, B.A., speak at the three churches. April must be a good month to have a birthday, within the next few days, and we hope they enjoy their special day: Ronald Crozier, Valerie Edgar, James Stevens, Garry Hulcoop, Rod- ney Chandler. Kathleen Demara, Brian Holtby, Roy Leach, Albert Leach. \ Good Friday evening, a service was held at 'Manchester church. A very impressive service, with a film "King of Kings", kindly shown by Catherine Martyn. Kay Smith sang a solo and Prospect Choir sang. Our best wishes go to Rev. and Mrs. John Braham who leave this week for a six weeks vacation to Florida and Jamaica. May they have a wénderful holiday and a safe journey. Head Memorial Church W.A. met last week at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Carleton Graham. A supper is ar- ranged for Thursday, April 10th at the church. This Sunday, ladies of the island will have charge of the Church ser- vice. We are very fortunate to be having Miss Beatrice Wilson, B.A. of Toronto, to deliver the message. The April: meeting of the Head W.A. met at the home of Mabel Gra- | ham on the evening of April 2nd. The | meeting opened with the hymn 'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross', fol- owed by a prayer by our president, Myrtle Manns. Easter Story from the scripture, and our study book. Reta Reader told the story of the day of Jesus Crucifiction. After the minutes of our last mect- ing, the roll call was answered by a} Leona Barry read the verse from the Easter stoy in the Bible. Myrtle read a poém based on the verse from Proverbs "The tongue of the Wise useth knowledge aright." Following the financial report, and the report from the Hospital Auxili- ary, other matters of business were discussed, It was decided to have & supper on the evening of April 10th. The pictures on Bermuda by Clara Martyn will 'be shown in the Head Church on April 18th, Reta Reader led in a contést on women in the Bible, which was won by three members, Irene Carter, Bon- nie Gerrow and Helen Redman. An Easter Egg Cross-word puzzle Was won by Joyce Heayn. Lunch was served by Leona Barry's group. A lovely Easter cake was enjoyed by all, Mrs. Alec. Martyn spent the Easter week end with her daughter Inez in Toronto, where she visited friends and relatives. Mr, and Mrs. Bill Healey and family were in Ganano- '| que for the holiday, where they visit- ed Mr, Healey's parents, The rather cool and rainy Sunday did not deter the church congrega- tions for the Easter services. The quartette at the evening service at the Head Church was much appre- ciated. It consisted of Irene Carter, Mrs. A. Ashton, Rita Rodman and Ethel Redman, and we hope to hear them again soon. Sunday guests of Mr, and Mrs. C. Reader were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Dow- son, and. Mr. and Mrs. A. Angus and families. Mr, and Mrs. Hugh Hargrave and family were Easter week-end guests with Mr, and Mrs, C. Graham. Prince Albert Easter Rally Service was olferved in word and song at church on Sun- day. The chancel was detorated with a basket of flowers plus ferns, A couple of lilies were supplied by the Butson and Martyn families which. lent an appropiate touch for the sincere wor- ship. Mr. Linstead's message proved most fitting especially emphasizing 7 i the meaning of Easter faith. At 8, 8. all sang "Happy Birthday" while Marion Martyn, Linda Hunter and Wayne May deposited their mon- ey. Wednesday night Mr. and Mrs. R. Butson gracionsly opened their home for the 8. S. meeting." Pear: ce back to our village after winter- ing in Oshawa. Ay Mr. and Mrs. E. Martyn attended the funeral of the late Mr, Clarence Croxall of Uxbridge on Sunday. Quite a few relatives and friends bustled here and there over the week- .end including; Mr, and Mrs. St. Mar- tin, Hamilton with his sister Mr. and Mrs, James Davidson Jr. and family; Mr. and Mrs. W. Webb,- Haliburton witt her parents Mr. and Mrs. G. Heayn and Robert. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pickard and fam- Fo-- ily of Port Pasi enjoyed Friday with her parents Mr. and Mrs, E. McCrea. The close relatives entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Love and family included; Mrs. Z. Jackson, Mr, and Mrs. Ted Jackson, Mr. and Mrs, A. Brock all of Port Perry and Dr. G.
