County Junior Farmers Win Field Day Trophy The Ontario County Junior Farmer's won the Quinte District Junior Farm- ers Annual Field Day Trophy at Peter- "borough on Saturday, July 19th, 1958. This field day is an inter-county sports competition for the counties of Durham, = Victorian, Peterborough, Northumbériand, Prince Edward, [&n- nox and Addington, Hastings, Fron- tenac and Ontario. In the past years Ontario County has participated in the Guelph District Junior Farmer's Field Day but accepted the invitation to join in the Quinte District Field Day for the first tme this year. The field day began with the soft- ball games in which seven boys and five girls' teams competed. The boys' and girls soft ball teams from Ontario County .each emerged as champions of the day in close competition. The standing for Ontario County in the track and field events were as follows: Boys Tug-of-War 2nd, Boys' High Jump 3rd, Boys Relay Race, 1st, Boys Running Broad Jump 3rd, Girls 3- legged race 2nd, Girls high jump 1st, Girls 76 yard dash 2nd, Girls relay race 1st, Girls running broad jump 1st and 3rd. Ontario County had entries in all events except the Square Dance Com- petition and won the trophy with a total score of 77 points. Peterboro and Prince Edward Counties were tied for second place with 60 points each. It was a very successful day as in- dicated by the keen competition in all events and the fine spectator follow- ing each county had for their com- petitors. Following the square dance competition there was a Field Day Dance in the Memorial Centre Arena, Peterborough. The boys and girls of the Ontario County Junior Farmer's Association had a very triumphant and highly en- joyable trip to the Quinte District Jr. Farmer's Annual Field Day and are to be congratulated for their success. Hog Marketing Endorsed With 324 of 424 polls reported, Ont. hog producers voted 23,904 to 10,986 last night in favour of continuing the co-operative marketing plan now in effect in the province, Charlie Meclnnis, president of the Ontario Hog Producers Association . co-operative, who has carried on a 17-year fight for the marketing plan, appeared confident that his stand would be supported. ' Latest returns showed 66.796 percent of the hog producers in favour of the plan, Voters were slow in getting to the polls because of pressure of harvest work but started to pour into town- ship offices to mark their ballots after 6 o'clock. IMirst return tabulated in the un- official count at the producer associa- tion Dundas St. W. headquarters were from Chatham Township in Kent County. In this area 57.9 percent voted in favour of the marketing plan less than the two-thirds majority that would be required in the overall pro- vincial vote. However, this gave heart to the association in View of the fact that the association members had not expected too much from this par- ticular area. Spokesmen for the producers' asso- ciation said there had been forecast of rain in practically all of the 420 town- ships where producers were eligible to vote, and the forecasts called for the rain to start in late afternoon of carly evening. Since there was haying to do in some areas, and wheat to be com- bined in others, farmers were just naturally waiting for the end of the work day to mark their ballots, they figured, ' \ The association hopes to give farm- ers across Ontario an unofficial result of the plebiscite in a few days. The official result is expected next week. Each township had one polling booth, in the township clerk's office.
