Blackstock W.M.S. of the United Church met at the home of Mrs. Carl Wright Wednesday afternoon with fourteen fadies and 8 children in attendance. Murs, 'Carnaghan introduced the new Study { Book, Concerns of a Continent, the first chapter of which is -- "Know Your Neighbors", and with the as- sistance of six ladies representing as many countries she made it very in- teresting. Mrs. Harold Kyte con- ducted the worship telling the story of the Prodigal Son. The rest of the hour was spent in games and getting acquainted with the new members. Only twelve remembered to come this time but we hope many more will be at the next meeting, September 28rd, vight after school in the Primary room of the United Church Sunday School, when it is planned to com- mence the new fall study and pro- gramme. Tuesday evening the girls who had taken the Singer Sewing Machine class in sewing for ten weeks--(one lesson a week) under the able direc- tion of Mrs. J. Mappin, Nestleton, went to Lindsay to a Fashion Show and modelled the dresses they had made, along with girls from three other classes. These were judged by a- Home Economics Teacher, Miss Bar- nam of Lindsay and Mrs. Simms also of Lindsay. Four teachers and twenty one stu- dents of senior grades of high school attended the Shakespearean Festival at Stratford Wednesday. The feat- ure for that afternoon was a Special Students Matinee showing Henry IV Part I. The Explorer Group of the United Church opened for another year with a corn and marshmallow roast on the fair ground Friday evening. There were fourteen girls and leaders pre- sent who enjoyed games, singing and fellowship. The leaders this year are Mrs. F.' Butt and Mrs. R. Van Camp. Sincere sympathy is extended to 'Mr. and Mrs, C. Jensen in the tragic death of Billy last Tuesday. To Mrs. Gordon Stinson and family in the death of Gordon and to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Heaslip in the death of her mother Mrs. Irvine. Rev. Merle Thompson, Saskatoon renewed acquaintances in the village this week and while in Ontario will attend a re-union at Emmanuel Col- lege and General Council of the Unit- ed Church in Ottawa. The Thomp- son families of this community were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Thompson Saturday. Mrs. Ruby Carson, Jamaica, has been a guest of Rev. and Mrs. P. Ro- meril for ten days. Mr. and Mrs. Don Sinclair spent Sunday with the Gordon Strongs. Bert, Ralph and Gerry Bowers were guests of Clifford Days Saturday on his 18th birthday. Mr. and Mrs, Weir Swain, Toronto, spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Swain and family. Winners from Cartwright in the Penny Draw for Port Perry Hospital on Saturday were Mrs. Merrill Van Camp; Mrs. Earl Bradburn; Mrs, Ivan Proutt and Miss Pat Pascoe. Msds. Roy Turner, -Ivan Thompson, Neil Bailey and John Ballingal and Miss June Armstrong attended an of- ficers meeting of Girl Guide Camp at Doe Lake for the week-end. Miss Helen VanCamp spent Sunday with her mother Mrs. W. W. Van Camp. Margo Murphy, Tyrone, spent last week-end with her aunt Mrs. Roy Mec- Laughlin. Mr. and Mrs. Russel MeLaughlin, Lloyd Wright on the birth of a son. Mr. and Mrs. Tipper and Miss Jean- ette McGhee, Toronto, visited Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dorrell and Mrs, J. A.
