8----THE PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, MARCH 8rd, 1960 Blackstock The W.A. of the United Church met in the new Christian Education Bldg., Tuesday evening, February 23rd, with 26 ladies present, After the opening exercises, Minutes and Treasurer's re- port, the president turned the meeting over to Mrs. Richard VanCamp, who in devotional period read a poem "This is My Prayer", A passage of Scrip- ture and a paper dealing with Instruc- tions of children and parents and led in prayer. She then introduced Miss Margaret Pellow of Oshawa who gave 8 most interesting address on Young People To-day. The roll call, a Teenage Problem on which an in- terestingteresting discussion 'was led by Miss Pellow. Mrs. Archer thanked the speaker. Mrs. Ross Duff reported on preparations for the turkey supper March 16th and Mrs, Butt reminded RESEDA RR service at Cadmus, March 4th. The meeting closed with the Benediction and lunch was served by group 2. The Town and Country Couples Club met in the C. E, Bldg. on Wednesday night with 16 couples present. It was decided to hold a Spring Dance May 18th, The discussion was "How Can We Show Friendliness and Fel- lowship in our Church; also what im- provements can be made to church grounds. Games planned by Blake and Jessie Gunter were played. A lunch was served. Miss Reta Harris attended the tele- phone Chief Operators' cenvention in King Edward Hotel, in Toronto, on Thursday and Friday, February 18 and 19, Mrs. Ralph Larmer, Mrs. Lorne Thompson, Mrs. Harold McLaughlin, Ralph Larmer, Walter Wright, Leslie Taylor and Fred Trewin attended the Agricultural convention in King Ed- ward Hotel, Toronto, and Thursday, February 26 and got storm-stayed, but were fortunate in getting to Black- stock and some to their homes Friday. Again all activities in the village Friday and Saturday night were can- celled due to storm and blocked roads. The Arnold Taylors received a phone call from Mr. and Mrs. Roy Taylor on Sunday afternoon, saying they had ar- rived safely in Tampa without seeing any storms, Mr. and Mrs, Ivan Thompson and Mr, and Mrs, Harold Kyte attended the ladies' night and banquet of the Masonic Lodge in Port Perry on Sat- urday night. ~~ Several others had tickets but were unable to get out their roads. Messra, Bruce Ashton, Bert Gibson and Merrill VanCamp spent two days last week at the Royal York Hotel, in | Toronto, attended the Ontario Good Roads Convention. Wednesday even- ing Mr. and Mrs. Victor Malcolm, Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. Gibson and Mrs; Van. Camp joined the men for the night performance and dance. Services were held in both churches Sunday morning. There were 21 in attendance at the Anglican and 64 at the United. By 11 a.m. approximately 85 had gathered at the United so the film "I'll Sing not Cry" which the Ex= ployers had intended for Friday night was shown in the Christian Education Bldg: If there is favourable weather and 'roads commencing. Wednesday, March 2nd Lenten services will: be held each each Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Anglican church and the Ex- plorers are hoping to have their affil- iation service Friday night, March 4th and show another film. Monday noon--Mail has gotten in so we feel we are out of isolation for at least a little while again, Snow plows could'nt open the road south (as well as many side roads). A bulldozer got through here Sunday afternoon. It seemed so long without any mail, Fri- day and Saturday. Port Perry Rod and Gun Club The regular monthly meeting of the Club will be held in'the Club room over | & Brock's store Tuesday evening at 8.00 |} pam. It is to the interest of every mem- |§ ber to attend these monthly meetirgs | ¥ 80 that it might be learned as to what | 8 is going on at these business meet- | §# ings, and it is hoped that every mem- ber will make every effort to attend, At our last meeting it was learned that our good friends had to go to the Wellsely Hospital for a serious operation. and that during the past week was to go to a convalesent hospital that he might recouperate from that opera- tion. and are very happy to learn of his ecovery. Let all of the Club members plan to attend. New members who wish to join the Club will 'be welcomed, Thursday evenings there is shoot- ing at the Port Perry High School Gym. Club members shoot from 7.80 to 8.30 for Junior members and from 8.30 on for senior members. There is" some very keen shooting among both classes. All are shooting for 'their Bronze, silver, gold pins, and for their crests; New members can also join the Club at these classes.
