JA HOCKEY News MINOR HOCKEY NEWS-- PORT BANTAMS ELIMINATE UXBRIDGE IN PLAY-OFF SERIES Port Perry Bantams defeated Ux- bridge 6-2 -in Uxbridge last Friday night. This was the Port Perry boys second win in a row, to eliminate Ux- bridge from O.M.H.A. Bantam play- offs. This game was a .big en ef fort with every hoy playing good hockey. The star of the night was Rodger Stephens in the goal. Hé kicked out and caught everything the Uxbridge team could throw at him, except in the last period when a couple of bouncers got by him. After the game was over his team mates car- ried him off the ice in real hero style. Port Perry-- Goal--Rodger Stephens; Fulford. Defence--Bob lee, McMillan, Bal- lingall, Porter and Mark. HIGHLIGHTS *- - By Dave Morton cageon from moving into second place in the Léague Saturday night as they edged the visitors. five to three in one of the fastest games of the season. Port Perry still has command of first place in this junior league with War- saw running a close second. The ref- crees claim they have a harder job keeping pace with these teams than they do at Junior A games, which is quite a compliment. The first goal of the evening came at the 10.25 mark of the first period, when Carnochan scored from MeMil- Jan, while Bobcaygeon had a man in the penalty box. Port Perry's second onl was scored by Burnett, with the assists going to Sneddon and Carno- chan, while two Bobcaygeon players sat out minor penalties. It was these two opening goals that gave Port Perry the margin needed to take the game. - Wanamaker held Bobcaygeon scoreless in the opening period but the final two periods saw cach team scoring threé goals. The checking was fierce in the see- ond period as both teams poured on the pressure. Nichols came up with an early goal for Bobcaygeon and Jenkins countered five minutes later with a sizzling slap-shot fromthe blue-line that baffled the Boheaygeon net-minder. Carnochan's unassisted goal came after only thirty-two seconds of play in the final period to move Port Perry Gray and Geer combined to set up Burnett's second goal of the evening and it looked for awhile like Port-had the game wrap- ped up. Then Bobcaygeon caught fire with a pair of goals in the final five minutes to threaten Port Perry's lead but they were unable-to close the gap once Wanamaker decided to close the goal-door. Fists flew for awhile but things goon quicted down when the other players failed to join in. . Preistley and Raby were missing from the Bobcaygeon line-up Saturday night, apparently are finished play- ing hockey for the season. Both players were suspended after a fight in Warsaw during which the referce was clipped in the mouth with a stick . Ray Jenkins has been playing great defensive hockey for Port since he joined the Juniors a couple of weeks ago. He is also able to put the puck in the net when, the occasion arises . . . . Jim Burnett paced the redmen with two goals and an assist Saturday night . . . Port Perry out- shot the visitors 45 to 29 so a lot of credit belongs to Ralph Junkin, the Bobcaygeon goalie, for keeping the score close, Next Saturday "night sees Perry playing host to the place War SAW Flyers. 8:30. d First Period-- Port second Game time is 1.
