The special featuid of the Program- me was the talk and demonstration on "Flowers", given by Mrs. Eleanor Woods, of Eleanors' Flower Shoppe, Much information was gleaned by members in connection with flower arranging, proper room temperature, care regarding watering and fertiliz- ing, method of cutting plants for starting new ones, ete, Eleanor was very generous with "her time, and spared no effort in making it an in- teresting and profitable demonstra- tion. ¢ Flowers or potted plants were won by Mrs. L. Honey, Mrs. A. Sandison, Mrs. F. Warren, Mrs, Pat Hill, Mrs. H. O'Neill and Mrs. S. Ploughman, After singing the Queen, a tasty lunch was served by the group in charge, and a social get-together en- joyed. Birthday Tea The W.I. entertained at a tea, at the home of Mrs. L. Patterson, Bige- low Street, April 27th, in honour of ier birthday. The members were most graciously welcomed at the door by the hostess. Mrs, Patterson was the recipient of many birthday cards, and sincere good wishes, After a short variety programme was pre- sented, a delicious "pot luck" lunch was served, consisting of sandwiches, cookies, birthday cake and tea. Scugog News On Wednesday evening, 19 ladies met at the home of Reta Reader for the Head W.A. We were pleased to have Mrs, Oliver Reader, Mrs, B. Mid- dleton and Mrs. John Pearce. The theme of the program was Mo- introduced- by the singing of "Faith} of Our Mothers". The roll call re- quired deep and sincere thought to suggest, "What keeps a family to- gether?" The answers varied but most popular thoughts were, plans of work and play together with love and consideration for all members. The Scripture from Colossians re- minded us of Paul's directions to the people of Colosse and people of all time concerning the family. Then Ruth Heayi followed this with a-read- ing entitled "Roadside Window" em- phasizing the importance of the home. Reta Reader presented an article on the origin of Mothet's Day. and recall- ed the love, Anna Jarvis of Philadel- phia had for her Mother when she was moved to establish a day to re- member and honour all Mothers. Fol- lowing her Mother's passing in 1905, Anna devoted years to this project. During her life 44 countries adopted her idea. However Anna became sor- rowful when she saw how the idea became commercialized and her Mo- ther"s favourite flower, the white cranation was used for profit. Reta Rodman concluded the pro- gram with-a poem, "Look Up & Talk to God". During the business period it was decided to give $26. toward the X-|§ Ray, $8 for United Church Bursary | ¥ fund and $8 for Quin-Mo-Lac Camp.
