8 THE PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, AUGUST 38rd, 1961 BROOKLIN NEWS St. Thomas" Church The kind of murder most people to- day must fear is military murder, de- clared Rev. Reginald Stackhouse in St. Thomas Church, Brooklin, on Sun- day, July 30. In a sermon on the 6th of the Ten Commandments, he argued that in a nuclear war it would be im- possible to avoid taking the 'lives of countless innocent and defenceless people. "War is no longer a duel be- tween fighting forces but a massive movement of destruction that engulfs the whole population. He points out that it was necessary for the West to have nuclear weapons in order to deter potential enemies from using them, but argued that their unbelievably monstrous threat to: humanity shows the great moral to-day should summon men to deeper ancient commandment with a new sense of urgency, This threat may work to the good of mankind if the fear of destruction impels us to pre- serve the peace. Mr. Stackhouse, suggested thre ways by which Christians could secure this goal which has become' essential for man's future, The first is the de- sire for peace which belief in Jesus Christ should mean. For Christian nations and citizens this means the abrogation of war as a means of pol- iey, and its use solely-as a means of defence. Secondly, belief in Jesus Christ reveals that the cause of war is root- ed in the sin of man, and can be er- adicated only by moral transforma- tion. Thirdly, Christians have been shown clearly the way to peace is the way of God, and the great crisis of the world -- A hb REFEREE ol MA MERE PAAR F TE TAMER ATES FIST . . oF -School, THAT 5 A +} Bho bhi dedi Mrs. Fred Ashton.
