This man stated why should Whitby Township maintain a place for rec- reation for the people of the Hamlet of Brooklin when the City of Oshawa has no such place, What about C.R.A. with hired recreation directors as well as several other places of recreation in the city? Among the groups using the hall are the Women's Institute, 4-H Girls Club, Junior Farmers, Cubs, the Boy Scouts, Bridge Club, Art Class, Shuff- leboard Club, Fair Board Meetings, Seed Fairs, and various other farm organizations meet there. The Baptist Congregation meets and holds church services and Sunday { School in the hall. The Library was housed in the hall for a number of years. Athletic Meetings and Banquets, Dances, and Wedding receptions. People came to these activities from all over the the Township as well as from outside our Township. The Women's Institute have had a big part in equipping the hall among some of the things done are:--The drapes on stagef the piano, equipment in the kitchen All local organizations NEWS The Women's Institute sponsor the 4-H Girls Club and at the present (time a group of 22 girls are in the LClub, "Featuring fruit". The girls come from East Whitby, Myrtle and Cornation Gardens. Only 5 or these girls are from Brooklin Meadowcrest. 6 o meet if we had no Township Hall? extend the present building even to making it a Community Centre. The Township Offices could be included in the set-up, Brooklin does need a large auditorium and banquet hall. Our elected men would do well to consider very carefully before decid- ing on any big change. An interested Citizen.. Utica The Cemetery Board met at the home of Frank Kendell last Wednes- day. There are two new members, Geo. Harper and Frank Gibson. Mrs. R, Wilbur picked four quarts of raspberries on Saturday, Oct. 28. Mrs. Verna Gibson of Greenbank spent the week-end with Mr. and- Mrs, G. Harper. George Harper's visited Mr. and Mrs. Gibson of Taunton on Sunday. Utica Public School held their Hallo- we'en party on Friday. Some 43 children dressed up and everyone joined in the games, Refreshments were passed around and everyone en- joyed themselves. On Wednesday evening the neigh- bours of Miss Flossie and Mr. Rich- ard Spencer gathered at the Spencer home to give them a farewell party prior to their moving to Port Perry. You and your family have lived on the Ridges since 1906 and are one of the oldest families in the district. You, Flossie have been active not only in Cedar Creek but in Raglan, Shirley and Prospect. You were al- ways willing to lend a helping hand when there was sickness or bereave- ment in the Community. You, Richard, were also active in the Community and served as a school trustee for over 80 years. We ai sorry that sickness has forced you to retire.
