A - E-- Ontario County FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE Mr, Julian Smith, United Co-opera- tives of Ontario, will be the guest speaker at the Annual Meeting of Ontario County Federation of Agri- culture to be held at Greenbank -Unit- ed Church, Tuesday, December 5, at 7.00 p.m. Another interesting feature on the programme will be the entertainment to be supplied by, the Baker Hill In- | strumental Group. 3 Reports of various officers and af- filiated groups will be heard as well as the election of directors for 1962. This promises to be a very inter- esting evening and it is hoped that all Farmers interested in the work of their County Federation of Agricul- ture will contact their local director or the secretary Mrs. Leslie Meyers, Goodwood, for tickets. Exercise Tocsin B 61 On Monday, 13 November the Em- ergency Measures Sirens will sound in Ajax, Pickering and Whitby. 'This will be 'a practice alert over the whole of Canada, It will be foll- owed by an hour and a half program on radio to explain to the public the type of information bulletins that would follow an actual alert. There are many aims to the exercise but of importance to those locally is that it will enablé one to work out the family survival plan, s School principals in the municipal- ity have been advised of a school plan, but should the sirens sound during school hours on this exercise some may conduct a form of revised fire drill but will send the children no further than the school grounds and shortly return them to their classes, Municipal governments in the Coun- ty will take part in the exercise which is expected to last twenty-four hours. C.K.L.B. will cary local situation reports on broadcast from the County Control EMO 'Headquarters at the Airport, Oshawa following the Nation- al broadcast from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Monda¥=evening and during Tues- day. Listeners will be able to hear how the attack pattern affects their part of the county. It should help them to realize the effectiveness of the plan- they have no plan it should point out' the need of one. This exercise should not disrupt unduly the school routine and factor- ies are not expected to close down. The exercise should point out many blank spaces in community planning of which your EMO is aware and for which some plans have been produced. The effect of these plans will be assessed and improved upon, which is one of the aims of the exercise. One siren in Oshawa east may not be completely installed in time for the exercise but the other nine in the south of the County should be heard for the first time, although time will not permit a contractors thorough check before the exercise. The northern and remote parts of the County will receive a phoned mes- sage to their fire halls and it is their municipal council's EMO responsibil- ity to carry the warning to the public. In any event much can be gained by listening to the radio at 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 on Monday evening, -- Agricultural "Calendar Fri., Nov. 10 to Sat, Nov. 18-- Toronto--Royal Agricultural Win- ter Fair.
