The former Donna Collins "with her young husband met their friends at the Township Hall where all enjoyed an evening of dancing followed by a presentation of gifts. Allan Fulford and his bride were invited to the Head Tea Room to enjoy an. evening with old friends. Unfortunately Allan was ill so his young wife, the former Pat Farmer, efficiently accepted the situ- ation by herself. The guests were entertained with musical numbers by our teen agers, readings and contest. Murray Reader's coloured slides illus- trated some amusing animal poses, Christmas lighting and local scenes, Before lunch, Pat was presented with a bridge table and chairs. The Head U.C.W. for some time had anticipated an evening at the a- partment home of Reta Rodman and Mrs. Ashton in Oshawa. On Wednes- day evening this desire was fulfilled when 21 ladies crowded into their comfortable quarters. We were very pleased to see Alice Pearce there too, The evening was under the direction of Beryl Pearce's group. The devo- -|-tions- were centred around Easter theme. Marion Carter's chosen pray- er was most appropriate. Beryl con. ducted the study of Pentecost in as. sociation with the Scripture passage. This was followed by a lenten read. ing entitled "The Cross" by Reta Reader. By the roll call we learned what had been received in the two mystery boxes which had circulated the pre- vious week. The items consisted of home prepared food or household ar- ticles. When the boxes were return. ed, it was found that they contained $22.50. - Betty Reader's mothot sent a gift of 6 pr. of baby boottees for the Hosp. Aux. Dorothy Martyn reported that [the $1000 'Electrocardiograph is now ready for service.and announced the benefit tea for May 11. Clara Dowson's reading on "A Wo- man's Life" received many nods of concurrence and chuckles. Marion Carter Kmeibeiod the faithful beast of burden in her "Ode to a Horse". Don Buxcey had thoughtfully rent- ed a film from the library in order to present to us coloured movies on the timely subject of Cancer. During the business period various money raising projects were discussed. Three ladies volunteered to provide Christmas gifts as requested for an Indian School. It was decided to send two requests to the Township Council. Greenbank The Church service Sunday morn- ing was under the auspices of the af- ternoon group of the U.C.W. The devotional period was conducted. by Mrs. Cooper and Mrs, Robt. Leask and the guest speaker was Miss Doro- thy Young, a delegate to the World Council of Churches, held in New Delhi last November. The visiting minister at the evening service was Rev. J. K. Braham of Scugog. Larry Johnson of Sunderland sang a beauti- ful solo which was much enjoyed. Next Sunday evening Rev. Colin Rudd of the Canadian Bible Society will present a film showing how the Bible came to us. The crokinole party held. last Fri- day evening was a real success, every- one reporting a good time. The store corner was the scene of _another accident last Saturday after- noon. A car going south at excessive speed failed to do the twist on the curve and slammed head-on into a parked car. Fortunately no injurfes resulted but both 'cars were Sonsiders : ably damaged. A former resident of this com- 'munity, Mr. 'Roy McDonald, passed away at Bowmanville last week 'and was buried in Wick cemetery. - Congratulations to Rod Foster, Cliff Rodd, George Stone and Lloyd Parish who won the curling championship at the bonspiel held in Bynderiand re: cently. Mrs. Honey of Port Perry was a re- cent guest at the home of Mr. puid Mrs. Paul Diamond. Mr. Ralph Dusty has purchased Me. Ernie Luke's farm. The April showers coming our way these days are very welcome. Mr, and Mrs. Ernest Phair visited recently with Mr. Fred O'Neill Who 'is seriously ill in Lindsay Hospital. A pot-luck dinner provided by the afternoon and Fidelis units of the UCW will be served in the basement of the church on Wednesday, April Lake Scugog Lumber Co. Lid. 18 at 12 o'clock noon.
