bag 2 NEN AAR 5 Terman uirsbaasdaidn x5 a 2--THE PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, APRIL 26th, 1962 Seagrave On Wednesday evening the West Group of the U.C.W. put on a Variety Supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Reynolds. Forty guests were served a bountiful meal, after which the male portion of the company wat- ched the Maple Leafs defeat the Black Friday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. J. C. MacTaggart. Mrs. C. Tait is visiting friends in "Toronto during the Easter Holiday. | A better than average congregation attended the Easter Service, in Sea- grave United Church, on Sunday. The church was beautifully decorated with Easter lilies and baskets of Chrysan- themums. The choir sang as anthems "This Holy City" and a "Dutch Easter Carol", both numbers were much ap- preciated. Rev. McNeil took as his subject "The Gospel of the Resurrec- tion", founded on the text from I Corinthians 15-1. The Service on Friday evening was well attended. It gave added mean- ing to the days commemorating the death and resurrection of our Saviour. Fire at Seagrave Apparently some people do not know the chances they take when starting a grass fire, especially with a high wind blowing. This danger was well demonstrated on Sunday af- ternoon, when a fire was started on the south side of the Nonquon Creek, near the road, south of Seagrave corner. Fanned by high wind it was soon racing out of control over the fields and up the hill. The fire reels from Port Perry arrived, followed by a fleet of cars. They were able to keep the fire from a garage and pile _ of lumber. on the hillside, but could do nothing to check the grass fire, which finally burned out in bush on the top of the hill to the east. After travelling over a good number of acres. Fortunately there were no buildings in its path, or this story would have had a very sorrowful ending. Surely this will be a warning to others to NEVER start a fire with- out' ample protection. We believe in Reach Township a permit is required. Cedar Creek I Suggitt. __On_ Saturday afternoon a small Ashburn Mrs. Jas, Langstaff, of Richmond Hill, and Mrs. Fred Durdan, of Nia- gara Falls visited at the home of their brother Mr. John Miller during the week end.
