MARIA ANN GERROW Maria Ann Gerrow, daughter of John & Harriet Platten was born on Dee. 11th, 1870. She had two bro- thers and 2 sisters who have all pre- deased her. ' She grew up on Scugog Island, re | ceived her education there and Port | Perry High School, and in the year 1806 married Elijah Henry Gerrow, moved to Uxbridge where they farmed for many years. They had four children, all born at Uxbridge, Ont. ! In the year 1919 they moved to| Scugog to the former Platten farm and stayed only a few years, moving to Oshawa in 1923 and in 1924 bought the bakery and moved to Port Perry, where they resided some ten years. They moved back to their home in Oshawa where she resided the rest of her time. Mrs. Gerrow made friends each place she lived and kept the friends she made. She was a very gentle and kind person, living her religion from day to day and helping many along the way. She was a member of King St. United Church, Oshawa and The United Church Women. She died at Oshawa General Hos- pital, March 6th, in her 93rd year. Her husband predeased her in the year 19556. She leaves to Mourn, 4 children, Mrs. Erle Dingman (Hazel), Mrs. Donald Anderson (Edna), Grant M., all of Port Perry and Mansell A. of Oshawa, 5 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. The wearing of the "green" was encouraged, those not wearing the colour were soon disquali- fied in the Elimination Dance. This dance was won by Jean Schwartz and Hank Bertrand. The Broom Dance was won by Doris Popert and Don Beacock. Refreshments were served in the cafeteria. ' Much thanks to Ed McCaig who runs the "turn table" at all our dances. Scugog News The March meeting of the Head U.C.W. was held on Thursday, Mar: 7th, at the home of Mrs. Clifford Red- man. There were fourteen members and two visitors present. This meet- ing was one day late due to bad weather on Wednesday. Meeting opened with hymn "Abide with Me", followed by the Lord's Prayer. Irene Carter gave the medi. tation and Dorothy Martyn presented the -bible study from 'Missions Un- hindered" and the early church in Jerusalem. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted and the roll called. The treasurer gave her re- port and $26.26 was realized from the three trvaleling baskets in February. Reta Wilson read three poems, "Points of View", "Dawn's Dreams" and "Poor Grandpa". Mrs. Thos. Redman played for a lively sing song. Elsie Angus read a poem "Our Gar- dens" and Mrs. Thos. Redman read two poems of inspiration "Be Silent" and "I am Greatly Blessed." A letter regarding leadership day 'at Blackstock, April 1st, was read and seven delegates thought they would like to attend. It was decided that we hold a euchre in the Tea Room on March 16 as our money-making pro- ject for March. Evelyn Redman and Betty Reader were appointed to look after this euchre. Any clothing for our Indian bales are to be brought to our April meet- ing to be held at the home of Mrs. Clifford Love. Evelyn Redman tested us with a St. Patrick's contest with Beryl Pearce and Myrtle Manns winners. A refreshing lunch of cake and ice cream was served by Irene Carter's group. It is good news to learn that Mr. and Mrs. Mulholland are able to be at home after many months in hospital and at the home of their daughter recovering from a serious car accident, Mrs. Len Jarvis has returned from Toronto and is feeling much better. Mrs. Jas. Ianson is spending a few days at Hepworth. Congratul- ations to Frances and husband on the arrival of a baby girl. Beare were in Toronto on Saturday visiting Ruby's sister, Mabel, who is ill. Mr. Hugh Baird is progressing favourably following knee sur- gery in Toronto General Hospital. The W. 1. Meeting is being held on Wednesday afternoon of this week at the home of Mrs. K. Rodd. Mr. Gordon Jennings is ill with the flu and off duty at the store. Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beare. Cook. The low were Mr. and Mrs. Horace Webster. parcel went to Miss Marg. Rodd. Saturday evening another card party was held in the Hall. Stovin of Port Perry took place at Bethel Cemetery on Monday afternoon. The death occurred in Toronto last week of Mrs. Nellie Wallace, wife of the late Joseph Wallace. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Roy Grass (Jean), and a son, Lester both of Toronto. Also Sur- viving are four sisters, Mrs. An- nie Ferguson of Cresswell, Mrs. Jean Gunn of Toronto, Mrs. Mar- garet Woolridge of Little Britain, and Mrs. Nettie McDonald of Port "Perry, also one brother, Mr. How- ard Leask of Uxbridge, to whom | the sympathy of this community is extended.
