The next euchre will be on Satur- day evening Sept. 21st. New Anglican Rector Rev. Owen Robins! Orr, M.A. S.T.B., has been appointed Rector of the Church of the Ascension, Port Perry, and St, Thomas's, Brooklin, commencing September 16th. Rev. Orr, who comes originally from London, Ontario, was educated ut Ridley College, St. Catharines, and at Trinity University (Toronto). He has also done postgraduate work at Harvard University and at the Gen- eral Theological Seminary, New York.) He is presently studying towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. After his Ordination as Deacon in 1951 and Priest in 19562, in the Diocese of Huron, Rev. Orr served in that Diocese from 1961-66. In December 1966 he came to the Diocese of Tor- onto as Rector of St. Mark's, Parkdale, where he remained until 1960. Since then he has been Honourary Assist- ant at the Church of the Redeemer in Toronto, while pursuing his studies Rev. Orr is musically inclined and an accomplished pianist. He is 39 years of age and unmarried. We extend a warm welcome to Rev. Orr as he comes to our town and our parish this week. Emergency Measures Organization Mr. Joseph Reid, of Uxbridge, Ont., began his duties as Deputy Co - ordinator, Public Survival, County of Ontario and City of Oshawa, on September 3, 1963. Mr. Joe Reid, a resident of Ux- bridge. since 1952, was born and educated in Glasgow, Scotland, and although trained for the tea- ching profession, preferred busi- ness. A year before the Second World War he joined the staff of the Aeronautical Inspection De- partment, (Pyrotechnics and ex- plosives Division) and served the final two and one half years of the war jn an administrative role at Central H. Q., London, England. After hostilities he was the recip- ient of an award made by the Committee on Awares to Inventors for one of his inventions which is still in use to this day. ~~ Subsequently he returned to business, emigiated to Canada in 1951, was employed at Messrs. Dowty Equipment Hydraulic En- gineering at Ajax until 1969 and the cessation of the Arrow pro- gramme. For the past four years Mr. Reid has taught Grade School at Saint John's Training School, Uxbridge. Earlier this year, on behalf of the local Kiwanis Club of which he is a member, he effectively revived Scouting and Cubs in the Uxbridge area. The offer- ing was received and dedicated. The president, Mrs. H. Phoenix, presided for the business meeting welcoming the members and thank- ing the group in charge. A poem entitled "A Creed" was read. Fol- lowing the Roll Call the minutes were adopted as read. Treasurer reported a balance of $273.37. Plans for the forth-coming wedding were discussed and found to be in good order. Mrs. Phair and Mrs, Diamond who attended the Leadership Conference at Whithy will give a report at a later date. It was decided to pay half of the Vaca- tion School deficit of $25. A deci- sion was made to pay the expenses of a delegate to the Ivy Lea Conference on Sept. 20-22nd. Mrs, Harris was absent but it was hoped that she would see fit to attend. Repair of chairs and piano was discussed. Mrs. Ianson and Mrs. Blakely were ap- pointed to buy the needed fancy dishes for the kitchen, The Fall rally of local U.C.W. groups is to be held at Pinedale on Sept. 24th. A representative was to be chosen who next year would ad- vance to a higher office. Xmas cards were on display and members were urged to buy if possible as this is another source of revenue. The New Study Book was introduced by Mrs. Empringham and the first Chapters were reviewed by Mrs. Guy. "Christian Issues in Southern Asia", the title of the new- book should prove interesting. 21 -members and 2 visitors were present.
