Port Perry Council Authorize Needed Repairs During the council meeting held on Friday, Sept. 13th, 1963, a deputation from the Port Perry Chamber of Commerce! met with council and suggested | that council pass a resolution that the Bus Stop be changed! from Queen Street to Perry St. | North. At this time the council felt that no action should be taken on this matter until the two bus companies (DeNure Bus Lines) and (Colonial Coach Lines) who use this stop, and Mr. Ken, Jackson, proprietor of the Fla-' where the bus stop is located, should be notified of this request, so that they could express their views 'regarding such a change. A deputation of Mr, Fred De- Nure, Mr, . T. B Burke and Mr. Ken Jackson, were present at the Council Meeting on Friday, September 27th and explained their views on the proposed bus stop location. Mr. Jackson stated that he' was in favour of changing the bus stop to the west side of Perry St. North, but not to the i east side, as long as the two | coach lines approval, Mr. Burke, speaking on be-! half of the Colonial Coach Lines stated that in other places they would give their' : have bus stops on the main St. For No. 2 Well where there is heavy traffic. He said that they must first think of the safety factor and secondly of the convenience of their passengers. Perry St. North being on a hill, the buses would have to stop on an in- cline, and in the winter this would be hazardous to the peo- ple travelling on the buses, and to other traffic "He. felt that this site would not| meet with his. company's approval. Mr. Fred DeNure was of the same opinion as Mr, Burke. He also pointed out that the bus stop could be cut down from 100 feet to 70 feet an dthat a sign could be erected specifying No Parking at certain times of the day in the bus stop. By cutting down the present alloted space for the bus stop and no parking at times when the buses would be using the spot, would mean more parking for other traffic in this area. The council felt that the ex- planations of the delegations were reasonable, and passed a resolution, which was moved by R. A, Kenny and seconded by John Orde that the present bus stop location be alloted a space of 70 feet on tke north side of Queen Street and west of Perry Street, and also that a sign be erected reading "No Parking" from 10 to 11.830 a.m__100 to 3 p.m. and from 5.00 to 8.00 p.m. A four man deputation from the Ontario Water Risvurces Commission met with the local council at their last meeting to - discuss the situation which has arose at No. 2 well, The lack of water in Port Perry has mainly been caused by themlack of proper function- ing: of the pump at this well. The pump at. present is only pumping into the main under pressure some 60 to 80 gallons of water per minute. If the pump was in proper working order it should pump more than 180 gallons per minute. difference in the number of gals! lers on the pump being worn' and would probably have to be replaced to correct the situation.' It was also felt that the sereen should be acidized to remove the rust and permit a greater Apparently the present pump would have to be pulled out, which would cost approximately $300.00 an dthat a submersible pumped was due to the impel-| its place so that service could be continued The rental cost of this punt would be $150.00 per month, plus a service charge. The Fort Perry Waterworks | Department has a reserve fund with the O.W.R.C. of $2,400.00, but the O.W.R.C. suggested that ~nly $2,000 00 of this: fund be spent at this time. Before this money can be used, authoriza- tion must come from: the coun- cil an dthe commission. If the cost of repair to this pump is more than $2,000.00, the: addi- tional monev must come from the - current revenue of the Waterworks Pepurtment, ~~ (Continued on page 20) Win Jackpot There were two winners at the Bingo held by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Port Perry Legion on September 12th.
