Brooklin 655-3583 Raglan United Church U.C.W. held their Oct. meeting at the home of Mrs. Stan Manns. This was an afternoon meeting. The President Mrs. Leonard Slute was ni the chair. Following the opening hymn, "Eternal are Thy Mercies, Lord", the Lord's Pray- er was said. Mrs. Don Fergus- on led in the Devotions, the theme being "Thanksgiving". Scripture was read by Mrs. Ro- bert Bryant. Following Roll Call, reports were given by the Secretary, Mrs, Lorne Slute and the Treasurer, Mrs. Harold Bray. The overwhelming suc- cess of the sale of chocolate bars was reported by Mrs. Geo. Bray. A Stanley Demonstra- tion will be held in the C.E.B.,! Raglan Church on Nov. 7th at! Plans are being final- 8 p.m. ized forthe Bazaar on Sat., Nov. 23rd at 2.30 p.m. in the Hall Mrs. Lloyd Evans opens her home on Nov. 6th at 8 p.m, for the regular U.C.W. meeting. Following Benediction, the host- esses, Mrs. Clayton Mills and Mrs. Roy Moon, served lunch. The turkey supper at the Hall at Raglan Church was largely attended. The delicious meal was well organized and nicely served, much credit goes to the Convenor, Mrs, Clayton Miller and co-convenors, Mrs. Gordon Corner, Columbus, Mrs. Lorne Slute, Mrs. Doris Nottingham and Mrs. Jean Ferguson. The S.0.S. Club of Raglan School held their first meeting in the new School, with a large attendance of 28. The Presi- dent, Mrs. Elmer Layng wel- comed all and particularly those who were new to the School. Manns, a general discussion was held regarding the sale of Keep- sake Plates, imprinted with pic- tures of the new school at Rag- lan, and the old sehools of Rag- lan, Mount Carmel and Mack- enzie. There followed an op- portunity for the parents to talk to the teachers, Mrs. F. Auld, Mr. Balic and Mrs. Lyte, an dexamine the children's school books on display in the various rooms. The Nov. 20th meeting will also be in school at 8 p.m. Mrs. Lorne Slute recently en tertained the 1st Raglan Ladies Auxiliary and Parent's Com- mittee at their regular monthly meeting. Mrs. Lois Luke, the President opened the meeting, and the Scout and Guide Prom- ise were repeated. The -Secre- tary's report was given by Mrs. Earl Bray. Treasurer's Report for the Parent's Committee was given by Mrs, J. Bright. In the absence of the Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary, Mrs, Doris Slute gave the report. The Chairman of the Local Associa- tion Mrs. Lorne Slute spoke briefly of the need for Guide Leaders. Miss Maple Brown is acting as such on a temporary basis. Final plans for the Rummage Sale, Bake Sale and Tea Tables on Sat., Oct. 26th, were made, Mrs. Lois Luke as Convenor. An invitation was accepted to attend the Ladies Auxiliary Executive Meeting in Oshawa, at 1st Oshawa Scout Hall. Instead of a regular pro- gram, each mother present told what was enjoyed most by her Scout, Cub, Guide or Brownie. The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer. The Rummage tables by Mrs, Stan Manns, Mrs, H. Luke, Mrs. G. Solomon, and Mrs. S. Bray. Mrs. J. Bolduc was in charge of the kitchen. = Helping serve tea were Linda Slute, Martha Anne Lawrence, Penny and Mary Slute. The local patronage is to make this affair a success. Last week "a Port Perry gentleman brought in half a pint of strawberries and a bunch of sweet peas to the Star office and this week - Don Beacock, R.R. 4, Port Perry, shown in the above picture picked the "siamese" twin apples he is holding at Holmeswood Orchards, Agincourt. After repeating the 4-H Creed in unison the leaders told how to choose the style, design and material for wool skirts. The home assignment is to get patterns and material, so that a start can be made on the Skirts at' the next "meeting.
