R. S. McMillan of Hamilton, also the special music by the choir. In. his opening remarks Mr. Mec- Millan noted the fact that our church was built where a saloon' once stood and he spoke very highly of the men and women who made this possible. Accor- ding to a news item appearing , in the "50 Years Ago" column | of a local newspaper this church was built in 1896 at a cost of $5800. This seems incredible | in this day and age of inflated prices. Of course much free labour was contributed and in those days labour was free, every hand's turn was not val-| ued in dollars and cents. The! news item also states that at, the opening of the church the | cost was over-subscribed by! $241. Hats off to our fore-: , fathers. Much credit is due also to] | those who down through the | years have carried on the good | work. We have a beautiful church and we are proud of it.
