Thompson, R.N., of Aurora. A Course in Home Nursing commenced in Port Perry High School on Tuesday, March 8rd, and will be continued there at 7.30 each Tuesday evening for the next 13 weeks. A further course can be made available to Uxbridge in the Fall of this year. To date, five candidates have registered with the Deputy Co-ordinator, Mr. J. Reid, sixteen more are required. 3. Civilian Rescue .The Basic Course in Civilian Rescue has been completed at - the Fire Hall in Uxbridge and the Advanced Course is now be- ing given at Oshawa Airport Training School. It is hoped that -several Uxbridge area candidates will qualify for in- clusion in the "Training of In- structors" Course to be held this year. If you have any quest- ions concerning an interest in this course, ask Bob Marshall, | Bob Noble, Eddie Holt or Jim Tremeer or Roy Cordingly. Civilian Rescue is currently being taught at Port Perry Fire Hall on Monday evenings with the entire Brigade participat- ing, that's enthusiasm for you! Tuesday nights at Oshawa Rescue Training School at the Airport are busy nights for our Chief Rescue Officer, Joe Garrett and his 'deputies. They always welcome a visitor -- if you are curious as to what goes on in 'Civilian Rescue' why not drop in and find out? 4. Radiological Defence "Radef" Should our area be threaten- ed by radiation, we have devised a method of determining its presence, degree, peak and de- cay in order to be able to advise the population on what action to take. A monitoring grid has been established in Ontario County and Tuesday March 8rd was 'in- troduction' night to the Radia- tion Monitoring Course which commenced in Port Perry High School to train monitors from Zephyr, Sunderland, Leaskdale, Uxbridge, Greenbank, Glasgow, Goodwood, Seagrave, Manchest- er, Scugog and Port Perry. De- spite the fog, seven of the above municipalities were represented. Each post will have a Monitor and Deputy and will have per- manent possession of a Service Survey Meter and - Personal Dosimeter. Within four weeks these posts will be serviced and exercised and the central part of Ontario County can claim the distinction of being the very first in this field of Civilian Monitors. United Church Women News Mrs, Ernest Healey, John St., was hostess for Units 2 and 4 of the United Church Women for their March meeting. Mrs. George Hall, leader of unit-4 took charge of the open- ing exercises. Sixteen mem- bers and one visitor of this unit were present. The Bible Study on the Word and the Way, Chapter 8 was made very interesting by unit 2 with Mrs.- Edgar Leask; Mrs. Aldred; Mrs. Lorne Duff assist- ing the leader, Mrs. Healey. Ten members of this group were present, Both units dispersed into separate groups for a busi- nessysession. Unit 2 will hold their Next meeting at the home of Mrs. Fred E. Reesor, Mary Street. Unit 4 will meet at the home of Mrs. Orval Stone, Queen St. for the April meeting. This group is planning a trip to the United Church House on Wed- nesday, May 27th. All mem- bers of the United Church are cordially invited to attend this outing. The bus will leave from the church at 8.30 a.m. Tickets may be obtained from most of the Unit Leaders. During the day tours will be made at Cove- nant College; United Church House and the Fred Victor Mis- sion, Keep this date in mind. Come and see the Swiss Vil- lagers dancing in the streets, the mountain climbers in a comedy number, then there will be girls skiing down the moun- tainside, well, maybe it is just a very small mountain.
