Minutes of a regular meeting of Council of the Village of Port Perry held in the Munici- pal Office on Tuesday, April 28th, 1964 at 7.30 p.m. PRESENT---Reeve J. J. Gib- son in the chair; Deputy-Reeve John Orde; Councillors Bruce Beare, Robt. A. Kenny and Ivan Parkinson. MINUTES -- On motion the minutes of April 17th meeting were adopted as typed. Carried. ROAD Supplies to be ordered through County Suppliers. This matter was held over as it is not known for sure what ma- terials, if any, might be needed. REQUEST for a street light by Mrs, Gayle Allingham held over from last meeting for a report by the Street Mainten- ance Committee. RESOLUTION--Moved by R. A. Kenny, seconded by Bruce F. Beare, that a street light be in- stalled on Queen St. in front of the Allingham property. Carried. DECORATIVE Lighting Aec- count of $134.59, held over from last meeting. Held over until arrangements can be made for the Chamber of Commerce to meet with the Port Perry Hydro Commission. DEPUTATIONS: Messrs. Joseph and Jan Franssen ap- peared before Council and want- ed to know the approximate taxes on a brick veneer, one- storey house, plastered, modern bathroom, electrically heated-- 1,060 sq. ft. The Clerk was instructed to prepare a letter giving the Franssen brothers the required tax estimate using the 1964 re- sidential mill rate. Mr. Joseph Franssen report- ed that he would like to develop a portion of Lorne St. west of Allan St., and wondered if the Municipal Council would be pre- pared fo do the road work if he installed the water main, "Port Perry Council News No commitment was made by Council and Mr, Franssen was advised that the first step would be to consult the Planning Bd. and make sure that his proposed subdivision meets with their approval. LETTER from Mr. W. How- ard Hall, Sec'y of the Port Perry Chamber of Commerce re decorative lighting, "Until we can arrange a meet- ing with the Port Perry Hydro Commission, the Board of Di- rectors of the Chamber would suggest that the decorative St. Lights on Queen St,, NOT be turned on until further notice. We have informed the Hydro Commission that as of this date the lights will not be used. Council will be informed of the results of our meeting with the Hydro Commission as soon as possible." Filed. At the evening performance, the three act operetta "Tom Sawyer" was presented by the pupils of Mrs. Hunter; Mr. Mr. Lane, twenty five main characters hands; prompters and scene supervisors. This presentation wa superbly carried out and everyone showed splendid abil- ity and talent. Many of the numbers, dur- ing the three different perform- ances, were carried out in col- orful costumes which made the entertainment quite lively and merry, with the little ones steal- ing the show. oo We regret to report at this time that the resignation of the Musical Supervisor, Mrs. Frank Hastings has been received. The Inspector of Public Schools for this district is Miss Lotta MeNeill and the Chair- man of the local school is Mr, Robert Archer. Mr. and Mrs. Don McKean and Mr and Mrs. Neil Hunter were in Toronto on Sunday paying respects to a friend, the late Mr. Everest. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beare vi- sited her aunt, Mrs. Grainger in Whitby on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Simmons and two children of Oshawa spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Baird. Hilltop Herald By Jody Eade On May 1 was the annual Open House held at the school on Friday evening. The gymnatori- : AA um programme 'consisted of a fashion show by the girls of the home economics classes. The firt part of the fashion show was commentated by Carol Dagenais and the sec- ond half by Betty Miller. A gymnastics display was well presented by both the girls and boys of the gymnastics' teams. ~ Demonstrations were put on by the Cadet Corps Band, the agriculture classes and the science classes.
