Port Perry Fire Brigade re- ceived a late call on Friday evening, to a winterized cottage at Pine Point, Scugog Island. When the firemen arrived, the . cottage was already ablaze and nothing could be saved. Flames and sparks from the burning cottaga threatened neighbouring properties and firemen were able to prevent additional losses by directing their hoses onto the roofs and walls of the other cottages. The cottage was owned by Mr. Henry Thomas, but was rented by a young couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Edgar, who were away at the time of the fire: Cause of the fire is unknown, but damage according to the owner's estimate is about $7,000. * * * A call was also made to the Boynton's Farm Equipment pre- mises on the Oshawa Road at 8 A i LR Cd SAR iba i S0UG0G COTTAGE BURNS TO GROUND o'clock Saturday evening. Scugog Twp. The Inaugural meeting of the Scugog Township Council was held in the town hall on Satur- day, January 9th at 1.30 p.m. All members of the Council were present, and Rev. C. C. Gilbert opened the meeting with scripture readings from Pro- verbs 29 v. 18, Proverbs 31, and John 17, and some well chosen words of advice for the Council followed by prayer. Mr. V. Aldred moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Gilbert for his assistance in opening the first meeting of 1965. Reverend 'Mr. Alec Rice and Mrs. Rice entertained at a New Year's Eve gathering which was held in the Sunday School rooms of the United Church. The Misses Betty and Karen Rice made delightful hostesses in the absence of their mother who through illness, was at the last moment, unable to attend. The evening was spent in games and contests and after a bounteous luncheon the guests attended the Midnight Watch Service which was conducted by the Minister, with the as- sistance of Misses Brenda Web- ster & Karen Kennedy, Master Larry Reesor, Mrs.C. C. Jeff- rey, Mrs. Sam N. Griffen, Mrs. Ellsworth Kennedy and Mr. S. Roll Call was taken with 9 mem- bers present. Minutes were read by Catharine Jefford. Our discussion is as follows -- 1. Choosing line and texture to suit the personality and figure. 2. Blouse designs and colours in relation to the rest of the wardrobe. 3. Blouse Materials. Demonstration and the Group Work then followed with the line and texture of materials. We looked in the catologues for two girls with dresses and ex- plained why or why not these dresses suited these girls. We then closed our meeting with the 4-H Creed. Iebruary 3rd, respectively.
