Meeting closed with hymn and prayer. Mrs. Kenneth Samells was hostess for the Anna unit Tues- day afternoon. Eight mem- bers and one child attended. Worship consisted of hymn, prayer, offeratory and a paper on "Oneness" by Mrs. Samells. Mrs. Carnaghan dealt with chapters 6 - 9 of God and His Purpose and led the discussion on same. A letter of thanks from Mrs. Tonge was read. The group are working on quilts for a bale. 6 Hospital and 2 home calls were reported. Meeting closed with benediction, after which lunch was served, Messengers and Explorers met together Tuesday aftern- noon. Opened by singing "Je- sus Loves the Little Children" and the Messenger motto and prayer. Elizabeth Thompson told the story from the. Para- ble of the Lost Sheep.. Mrs. McLaughlin introduced Mrs. J. Carnaghan who showed pic. tures of Trinidad. Eleanor Wright thanked Mrs. Carnag- kan. Meeting closed with the Explorer Hymn "This is My Father's World" and Explorer closing ceremony. The Esther unit met at the home of Mrs. Leith Byers Wed- nesday afternoon with seven ladies and one child attending. Leader Mrs. Walter Wright opened the meeting with a poem "Success". Mrs. Stan- ford Van Camp gave an excel- lent commentary of chapters 14 and 15 of God and His Pur- pcse which was followed by a discussion. A letter from Miss Doreen Van Camp was read. 2 calls and 2 books read were re- ported. After the business meeting closed with hymn and Benediction. Hostess served lunch. The 0.N.O. met at the home of Mrs, Shirley Wheeler, Mar. 18 with 24 members present. Minutes were read and approv- ed. The family dance was post- poned until may, due to so many other doings. Fair committee asked for suggestions re exhi- bits. Joan Paisley reported from Parks committee that the large table in kitchen of Recreation Centre is to be painted and a new top put on it. Decided that price of catering to W.I. Ban- quet be $1.50 but any further banquets will be $1.75. "A do- nation of $5.00 was received frem Mrs, Lawrence. Roll was answered with an Irish joke. Club will canvas for Cancer So- cicty. Meeting closed with a geme of charades, followed by lunch of sandwiches, cookies & coffee, St. John's W.A. met in the Parish Hall, March 18th, Mem- bers assembled at 1 p.m, for a delicious dessert served by Mrs. Harry McLaughlin and Mrs, Howard Bailey, At 2 p.m. pre- sident Mrs, H. E, Ashmore oc- cupied the chair, Hymn, "Sin. ful and Sighing to be Blest" wag sung. Hamilton reported on a spring bale sent to Toronto valued at $76.00. A report for a quilt was reported. A "mitten tree" is to be held at the annual meeting, members are asked to have some made. The April meeting falls on Maundy Thursday which will be an evening meeting, as a re- sult will 'attend service prior to the meeting, The Oshawa Deanery meeting will be held June 22, at St. George's and members are asked to keep this in mind. Meeting closed with prayer. . There was a large crowd at Cadmus United Church Satur- day evening. The occasion be- irg a farewell party honoring Mr. and Mrs. Ted Gibson who are moving to Port Perry. Mrs. Ken Gray presided at the organ for musical numbers. A trio consisting of Mrs, Jas, Fallis, Mrs. Jim Gray and Mrs. Roy Phayre, sang "He". Mrs. JT.orne Thompson sang a solo, "The Best Things in Life are Free", also "Climb every moun. tain". Mr. Reg. Sutton and Mrs, Ken Gray rendered a duet, "It took a Miracle". Members of the Sunday School sang, "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands". Miss Barbara Ro- hrer and Miss Gail Fallis pre- sented the honoured guests Mr, and Mrs. Gibson with a gift on behalf of the S. School. Rev. Romeril read a short address. Mr. Oscar McQuaid presented a wallet of money. Mr, and Mrs. Gibson graciously expressed a deep appreciation for the gift. Mr, Clare Fallis showed slides of local scenes of some of his trips. Mr. Romeril acted as M.C. for the evening. Lunch was served which ended a pleas- ant evening, Msds. Ralph Larmer; Percy Van Camp; W.W, Van Camp; M. Graham enjoyed the Casse- role luncheon in Solina Tues- day. Several from here called on Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Malcolm Wed. on their golden wedding. More would have, had the storm not been so bad. Others went to the celebration in Yelverton Hall Friday night. Congratu- lations Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm. Romeril is attending the Annual meeting of the Board of World Missions in Toronto this week. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Saywell and Margaret and Miss Helen Van Camp, Oshawa and Mrs. W.W. VanCamp were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Van Camp and family. We hope Mrs. Stuart Dorrell and Mrs, Edna McLaughlin, in Oshawa Hospital, will soon be recovered. ' Mr. and Mrs. Tom Graham, Caesarea, plan leaving shortly for a two-month visit in the British Isles. Mrs. R. Ford returned home during the past week after three months in Toronto and Florida. Misses Gertrude Henry and Doris Griffin, Toronto, spent the week-end at home. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Roy Taylor had a birthday party for her mother Mrs. J. Forder, who i¢ 92 years young this Tues- day. March 23. Supper guests were Mrs. Forder; Mr. and Mrs. Anson Taylor, Scarboro; Mr. & Mrs. Garnet Murray and girls, Cresswell; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Taylor and girls and Mr. and Mrs. Harry MecLaughlin and Mr. Marvin Nesbitt. Thomp- son who was spending the win- ter in Montreal, - We notice she returned the second day of spring. Our sick people are all im- proving and at home except Mr. G. Lloyd. He is just improv- ing. The postponed meeting of the Manse committee took place on Wed. evening. Representa- tives were present from Sea- grave, Zion and Pleasant Point. Arrangements were made to have a sale of furnishings in May ,the proceeds of which will be divided among the three congregations 650%, 25% and 26%. The two outlying congrega- tions will be reimbursed 50% of the money they have contri- buted to improvements on the manse during the last 16 years. Moneys in the Manse fund will be returned to the U.C.W. |. groups concerned. Sale of the Manse is in charge of the board of trus- tees. ' This week many of our young fry were singing at the music festival in Sunderland. Our group produced no gold meda- lists but Gordon Short and Cal- vin Nicholls received prizes in their respective classes. Aubrey and Marjorie Moon are floating around on cloud 9 this week. Their daughter Ila (Mrs. Williams of Goderich) presented them with twin grand-daughters. This couple have recoverd sufficiently to visit their other daughter in Toronto this week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Wana- maker accompanied by Mr, and Mrs. Reg. Foster, Greenbank, and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Love, Port Perry, journeyed to Water- lco on Saturday evening to witness the dedication of an Oddfellows temple there. These people were in search of ideas which they could use in the de- dicstion of Port Perry temple on April 10th. News item in brief: Time--Sat. Mar. 20th. Event -- Competition for the pipe major trophy, spon- sored by the Ontario Pipers Association. Situation--One 17 yr. old girl competing against men in 18-22 yr. old class. Result--You've guessed it. Our Rosemary Nodwel won the trophy and placed second in reel and strathespey class. Result 2--Father is very! very pleased! The same evening Miss Nodwell attended the Tartan Ball in Oshawa, es- corted by Mr. Douglas Bolduc.
