(Continued from front page) Chairman of the Management Committee, Mr. Joseph Dowson gave his report and stressed the need for more room at the hospital. Storage space, he said, is practically non-existent; the operating room is far too small and with the present trend in hospitalization, plans should soon be started to ex-, pand present facilities. The out-patients accommodation is far below present requirements and he felt that the time has come for people to be made aware of the over-crowding at the hospital. ' Mr. Dowson also spoke of Mr. Merchant, who is combin- boratory technician, formerly the jobs of two people. He also mentioned the fortunate eir- cumstance of having Dr. Woods as radiologist who spends two part days per week here, thus adding to the good service provided. Mr, Merrill Van Camp, Chair- man of the Property Committee reported on improvements dur- ing 1964. His committee had installed 16 new aluminum storm windows on the south side of the hospital, two new lawnmowers had been purch- ested; a refrigerator for the kitchens and filing cabinets and some equipment for the Labora- tory. - Mr. Charles Reesor reported for the Finance Committee and commented on the Operating Statement and general financial conditions of the hospital. Mr, Reesor mentioned that 12 years ago, when the hospital first came.into existence, it was pos- sible to operate on a figure of $4500. per bed; but at today's atandards, this figure would run into the thousands. Operating loss for 1964, as shown in the financial Sum- mary was $1027.62. INVEST NOW 92% VICTORIA and GREY TRUST Guaranteed Investments. Since the waiting room is far too small even to accommodate visitors, it was felt that the exterior Christmas lights would be more attractive. She also commented on the acquisition of' an up- holstered chair for each of the patient rooms and the new light which has been installed in the Operating Room. This ight contains a centre spot i ; light, in addition to the side ing the duties of X-ray and La-| lighting and this adequately fills the need of sufficient light during operations. A new sys- tem of identification has been installed, with name plates on each bed. In the children's ward, identification tags are also being started and this will overcome any mix-up when youngsters hop from their own beds to their neighbours. The Hospital Blood Bank was discussed, and a supply of blood is now kept on hand at the hospital for emergency use. This blood supply is obtained from the Red Cross in Toronto and even though it deteriorates within 48 hours, a fresh supply is obtainable from Toronto at a moment's notice. Mrs. Hook stated that since 1053 there have been 11,904 pa- tients admitted, and the pre- sent staff of 30 full-time and 20 part-time employees keep the hospital efficiently staffed. Turn-over in personnel is quite minimal. Mrs. Don Crozier of Scugog Island, Treasurer for the La- dies' Auxiliary reported on her group's activities for 1963-64. Each of the 92 babies born in the hospital the past year had received a pair of bootees. The Auxiliary also assumed one- half the cost of $4300. for the installation of the Oxygen equipment. Their Annual Doll Draw raised $1708., and in addition, the ladies are con- stantly making donations and working for the good of the hospital. The Chairman expressed sin- cere thanks to Mrs. Crozier on behalf of the Board, and asked her to convey to the other mem- bers of the Ladies' Auxiliary the very real appreciation felt for the work they are doing for the Hospital. Dr. Rennie, Chairman of the Medical Staff, asked Dr. S. P. Kandel to address the meeting ot behalf of his department and Dr. Kandel re-iterated the Man- agement Committee's earlier re- marks about the lack of space in the hospital. He stated he was very glad to learn that the Board is making plans to go ahead with expansion of the WES LANE PLUMBING - HEATING ELECTRIC 985-2473 Port Perry, Ont.
